All it does is ball up and does not flow even with a 300 watt gun when used on heavier (10 ga) stranded wire. The problem is there is almost NO FLUX in the product. I cut the solder in several places and did not find consistent rosin .If you use some actual ROSIN flux in addition to the solder, it flows and works fine with a 60 watt gun. DO NOT use the shown/recommended flux on the HD web site as it is for plumbing - only use a rosin based product.

Normal lead solder flows at a lower temperature. The higher temperature means that what you are soldering will oxidize faster. The rosin will likely burn off as well; It isn't like an acid flux that just melts. This is part of the whole 'lead free' push. For solder it's stupid. Nasa found lead free solder to form dendrites when temperature cycled, dozens of HP models (many 10's of thousands of devices) of laptops have had their graphics processing chips subjected to this effect (google 'reball gpu'). With lots of temperature cycling lead free solders have a tendency to form dendrites, that short out nearby connections. Silver Solder has cadmium in it, so what's the point? I generally prefer lead solder for electrical work (more important to keep the copper un-oxidized) Silver solder is a little stronger, and it isn't worth the hassle. Not a bad product, but not ideal, especially with rosin flux. It should be an acid flux for silver solder (acid flux isn't good for electrical, if you don't clean it off though).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from absolute garbage solder Like otghers have said- junk. Balls up, I know how to solder. This stuff is junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Solder I Have Ever Used This solder doesn't flow or wick into joints or wires as it should. It's as if it has not enough or no flux in the core. I am trained in Soldering and I know how solder should perform and this stuff is just plain poor. I wouldn't recommend using it under any circumstances.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you don't know how to wire solder, then don't use Personally, I think the solder is fine. If you are having trouble with the solder balling up, then you have cooked the rosin out of the solder and the result is solder that will not flow. It's also possible the wire is contaminated by twisting the end of your wire with your fingers after stripping it. I had no trouble at all to get the solder to flow with stripped clean wire with prepped wire ends with a small amount of solder before joining the two pieces using a clean, prepped butane soldering pen. If you over heat the solder and the wire you will not get good results with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nothing wrong with this solder I used this to fix my 50 inch plasma TV, I am of beginner experience level at soldering, I had no trouble what so ever, I don't know why everyone else doesn't like this product worked just fine

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect I have a bernzomatic torch with an attachment for solder and I got to use both yesterday for the first time and it worked perfect. I was working on a drivers CB and it worked perfect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Rosin Core Solder Like the last review this solder does not flow, had to use flux to make it flow, little or no rosin in this product.
