A friend told me that I needed this tool and bought it for me a year ago. It is rare that a tool is a life-altering experience for me, but the Benzomatic fits that paradigm.
Lighting my woodstove or a fire at the beach now takes seconds and minimizes paper. As a result, the creosote build up on my chimney is minimized and my carbon emissions are reduced. Dealing with a wood stove back draft when the house has been cold used to be a challenge, but post-Benzo life makes it simple and fast.
Attaching to a standard camping propane bottle with ease, the Benzomatic has a simple "on" switch that instantly bursts into a dependable and easy-to-direct flame. Even with daily use, my Benzomatic has lasted for an entire year on only one $4.50 propane bottle. Great value!
Lighting a fire while at the beach, camping, burning brush, or even lighting the barbecue or propane stove is a dream with the trusty Benzomatic at my hand. Men friends and family members regularly come to visit, play with my handy Benzo tool as they light the stove or a campfire, and then covet my Benzomatic -- threatening to steal it from me after they have had a chance to use it and see its skills. Women friends and my sisters - both rural and urban - can see that it is a tool worth buying. And rather than stealing mine, they buy their own for themselves and for their friends.
I ought to purchase stock in this company given the sales I could garner with my rave reviews and rich lived experience with that torch in hand, but in truth, I am not a consumer kinda woman and hold stock only in what is practical and real.
That said, Benzomatic has changed my life by making each day with my woodstove, a joy rather than a chore... Some things are worth buying. Benzo is one.

The product is very durable, and the safety feature is a huge plus. Other types are not as ergonomic for what we use this for; good design.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by rocketman262 Every home needs one of these
I bought this unit about 10 years ago. It is well made and the self lighting feature is terrific. My last torch had to be ignited with a lighter or spark unit. The built in ignition feature saves gas by making the unit instant on and instant off. It also improves control which makes the unit much safer.
This unit does not have the flame control feature of the model 7000 (which I also have) but I find that makes the unit easier to use.
I've used this torch for everything from soldering copper plumbing to starting fires in my fireplace to heating rusted bolts so they could be removed. If you own a home you should have one of these in your garage.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nathan The "Bench Mark" Torch
This is the Torch by which I judge all other torches. I grow up using this torch and never understood why they made the cheap version. It may be more expensive then your basic tube style torch but its well worth it.
-It ignites, stays lit and it keeps a constant flame with even heat, even in 40 mph winds.
-very durable, to the point were can leave it in a packed tool bag in the back of a truck and never worry about it.
-high quality materials, its a cast iron base with an aluminum tube and a brass tip.
-a well though out design, that's both ergonomic and innately easy to use.
- you can't really adjust the flame. (I've never needed too but still)
