I am not sure of how much heat you need, but propane does a good job. If you need it hotter mapp gas would be my choice.

TS3500KC Multi-Use Torch Kit is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential Tool for Soldering and other Heat Applications This torch kit is really a must-have tool for around-the-house projects, such as soldering or heating rusted nuts. One great feature is the built-in igniter integrated into the handle (see picture). My old torch had a separate igniter which was awkward to use. This torch's built-in igniter makes it much easier to light the propane fuel using just one hand. This is good from both a safety perspective as well as an economy perspective because you will probably use less fuel by starting the torch more quickly thanks to the better ergonomics. Also, the flame control valve (see picture) is very easy to use and has a well-marked "off" position so you can't make a mistake. For safety, this torch also has a built-in regulator that controls pressure and reduces the risk of pulsating or yellow flames when the torch is used in other than an upright position. The kit comes with some very detailed directions so even if you are a first-time user, you should easily be able to use this torch with confidence. I highly recommend this torch kit due to its many safety and convenience features as well as its good instructions. One note: always remove the propane cylinder after use, and always connect and disconnect the cylinder outside to avoid getting propane fumes in a closed area that may be near an ignition source (e.g., an open flame).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use and fits the bill This torch comes as ready-to-use. Just remove the black cap from the gas cylinder and secure the torch. The torch gets secured on the cylinder much like you secure garden hose on the outdoor faucet. No tools required, just hand tighten it. The torch lights up effortlessly and the built-in dial that controls the flame works well. The nose of the torch is about 6 inches long and would work just fine for soldering copper tubes. I got it to repair a few cracks and a dip in my asphalt driveway. I used latex pli stix to fill the joints. For the most part, I had to keep the torch pointing downwards and that wasn’t working out for me. A friend let me use his cane torch. The cylinder attached to it nice and easy. With that, I could point the torch downwards while keeping the cylinder straight and away from the flame. That actually worked out really well. Had I known before how easy it would be to fill these cracks using a torch, I would have bought it long time ago. Detaching the cylinder is just as easy. Simply twist the torch anti-clock wise. The replacement cylinder costs about three bucks and good thing is that Home Depot carries it in stores. Great tools for DIYers that’s easy to use and fits the bill. I highly recommend it to pros and homeowners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect DIY Torch Kit If you are a DIYer and have thought about doing your own brazing, this kit is a good starting point. First of all Please read the enclosed instructions, your life could depend on it. As always safety is first and paramount to success. I had to cut and cap a pipe coming up thru the slab feeding a hose bib on an outside wall. I cut out the drywall on the inside wall,of the garage, to access the pipe. It was a 1/2" I.D. pipe that once cut had to have a copper cap. Now I have a big bulky Oxygen-Acetylene set with a special tip for "brazing". But I only need to braze one fitting. OH, Bernzomatic you've come so far. You have a trigger start ignition torch head and a 14.1 oz Propane cylinder. Screw on the torch head "snugly" , open the valve about 3/4, hit the igniter, adjust the flame, braze, done. The nice thing is you can adjust the flame down to almost nothing. Don't tip it more than 60 degrees or you could get what's called "flaring". Another feature I liked was the multiple web flame spread, you'll see when you fire it up. This set up is for light brazing, that's why were using Propane. Also the TS3500 torch head is for propane only NOT Mapp Gas. When you are done using and it has cooled down remove the head and store, at least the cylinder, in a space that will not exceed 120 degrees F*. This torch does have multiple uses, not just for brazing. The adjustable flame makes it very versatile. This a keeper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy torch for around the house or shop The kit has everything you need - a full propane cylinder and the torch with built in lighter. You simply screw the cylinder on, turn on the gas, and pull the trigger. Its very convenient to have the lighter built into the torch/trigger rather than having to fiddle with a separate piece. If you've never used a torch like this before you should definitely read the included instructions first. One thing I will note about lighting - The instructions say to turn the gas on full (turning the knob counter-clockwise). I found the flow to be too high and had difficulty lighting it (had to pull the trigger many times). I experimented a bit and found that turning it on 1 1/4 turn was perfect for lighting it with one pull of the trigger. Then you can easily adjust the flow for the flame you need. The replacement cylinders are only about $3 at Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flame Thrower in your Hand. Bernzomatic hand held flame thrower is a real plus to have when it comes to soldering, thawing,or melting anything. The webbed adjustable flame is a real time saver. You are back a safe distance with the long stainless steel burn tube. The adjustable flame control knob is placed where it is easily accessible while using the torch so you can increase or decrease the flame as desired. It has a pressure regulator on the handle so it works when tilted or momentarily inverted. The grip fits almost every hand, small or large. This is great because it has the trigger start ignition. Makes getting a flame very simple. This is a must for all DIYers as it has so many jobs that can be done. Good value and great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have Tool Everyone needs one of these sets for the home. If you never use it for anything else except thawing out frozen padlocks in winter it is worth the price to have it on hand when you need it. This is a really well made tool. It is easy to hold. It fits the hand nicely and the trigger is easy to use. It has a variety of adjustments so you flame is well controlled. It is pressure regulated which means that it works even if it is tilted a bit. And best of all it comes complete in the box with the fuel included. That's awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to ignite. Good for light use. For its intended purpose this small torch does well for light duty projects such as heating materials, basic metal soldering, and lighting flammable products. This kit is not the correct product for true welding. The twist on torch attaches to the included propane bottle (individual refills can be purchased separately). I found it easiest to light the torch with the gas only turned on about half way rather than full as suggested in the instructions. I was then able to light the torch every time on the first trigger pull. My main use has been to decoratively age wood by "burning" the surface in order to bring out the grain. This kit works best upright but is reasonable when does not work well upside down. The flame blows out easily in a light wind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweat this! This is a very good torch for sweating copper. Very easy to handle and comfortable to work with. Has its own trigger ignitor, flame control knob, and a long stainless steel burn tube. Instant fire up and good grip to hold while performing task. Seems to heat quicker and sweat the copper better than my old one. Unit has a gas regulator for tipping, tilting and momentary inverting while working for safety and no interruption. Oh, and package comes complete with propane and a three year warranty
