Can this be used in combination with a MAPP Gas Torch to repair a snapped wheel bracket on a boxspring mattress frame?

Asked by: Hector
Chances are, if done correctly, the a Mapp gas torch could do the job, but be aware that all that steel will act as a large heat-sink, so you will probably need to do a lot of preheating away from the target area, or else you will find that you really don't have enough heat present. Of course, torch size enters into the equation here; a smaller size torch probably will fail, or do a lousy job. Admittedly, this job is probably best handled using acetylene, where air-acetylene should be more than adequate, rather than requiring oxy-acetylene. Best of Luck.

Whats best brazing rod to repair small hole in copper ac pipe?im need to use it with small hand torch

Asked by: Charlie
if the diameter of the hole is smaller than a pencil lead use Silver Solder would be your best bet. make sure to keep the area where you solder clean (use fine grit sand paper and make it shine) if that's not possible use rosin core solder. any bigger diameter you might have to cut off the damaged pipe and replace it and you will have to use solder. witch ever way you go HOME DEPOT will have everything you need for your project

But I purchased these to braze stainless steel bolts to a motorcycle gas tank to pull dents out. Needed a MAPP gas torch to get the metal RED hot. Be patient, you really need to get the working material and the rod hot enough so the rod becomes liquid and shiny to form a good fillet bond. What's nice is that when I need to remove the bolt after the dent is pulled, I just head the bronze to 1,650F and pull it off.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from They work well enough, but you only get 3 rods in the package. The fill material is a good bronze and the flux coating shields it well, in short, they work well. The description doesn't mention that the working temperature is 1620°F, 882°C, and the stated material strength is 60ksi. Compared to other retail offerings like the Lincoln Electric flux coated brazing rods also sold at Home Depot, these rods are an exceptionally poor value. The Bernzomatic WB5 is 3 3/32" rods with flux coating for $4, the Lincoln Electric KH515 is 1 lb which is 20 1/8" rods with flux coating for $6.50. Lincoln Electric also has 3/32" brazing rods for sale in home centers, but they are a special order item at Home Depot.
