Customer Questions & Answers

Can the double doors be placed on the side of the shed, rather than the front?

I intend to use the shed for a feed room and storage for carts and carriages. The location we plan to place the shed is perfect, with plenty of room to back a truckload of feed to the side of the barn. Where the front of the barn would be located is very limited in space - barely enough room to roll the carriage out. Thanks!

The barn doors for the Millcreek can on be placed along the 12' wall. They can be positioned left or right of center or centered. The Homestead 12' x 16' model # homestead_1216f has the door located on the 16' side. Unfortunately it is only available in a 16' length. Richard Best Barns

Can I assemble with one big attic floor instead of two small ones?

Asked by: AAAA
Yes, you would need to buy additional 2x4s, joist hangers and sheathing. Pretty straight forward. Richard Best Barns

Does this kit require Permit to build?

Does the kit have recommended floor foundation plans? Concrete foundation is prefered in my case. Can the door be placed on the side?
Asked by: Anonymous
Ray, The Millcreek kit you are looking at comes with a wood floor system including 4x4 runners which serve as a foundation. If you are wishing to place the shed on a concrete pad please consider the Millcreek without floor. The only thing that is required for our kits is the foundation be poured to the correct dimensions which for this shed kit is 12'-0" x 20'-0". A roll of moisture barrier should be placed between the concrete and bottom wall plate as these plates are untreated 2x4's. The door cannot be placed on the 20' side but can be placed left or right of center or centered on the 12' side. Perhaps the Homestead 12'x16' shed kit would suit your needs. See links below.

Does this come with the window and can the door be put in the center or is the front wall pre-cut for the door?

Asked by: Anonymous
Windows are optional and can be purchased by clicking the "accessories" tab on the product page or clicking the link below. The barn doors can be placed left or right of center or centered. The manual provides instruction for preferred door placement.

Customer Reviews

Millcreek 12 ft. x 20 ft. Wood Storage Shed Kit with Floor is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good price for some good plans and almost enough wood I love this product, but i keep finding ourselves having to make trips to the hardware store for more wood, as if the kit didnt come with enough/the proper 2x4's. Overall the instructions are fairly easy to understand and read, any issues are solved with simple problem solving skills. Also the floor of the loft in this kit is fairly frail. It held 2-3 adults and a roof truss being built, but you can tell that the plan calls for the bare minimum 2x4 runners for the loft floor. Inbetween the 2x4s the floor will sag, so we have plans to double the floor supports for an actually usable floor. For people who have a solid grasp of construction and engineering, but are not contractors or carpenters by any stretch of the imagination, this product was a fantastic option. It laid down the basic groundwork for the shed and we have been able to build it to spec and then adjust to meet our needs. overall im happy with the buy. I just wish there was more loft floor support, they threw an extra 2x4 or two in there, and the directions were just a hair more comprehensible. Currently still installing but il add pics as it goes

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent design and assembly Kit as received from Best Barns of very good quality with very minor mistakes in manual. Optional upgraded plywood and flooring system received from Home Depot of very questional quality in addition to Home Depot not shipping correct nails as specified in bill of material. Very unhappy with material supplied by Home Depot.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from this product is "ok". I found that the on-center distances for the 2x4 floor and loft joists coupled with only 7/8 inch OSB did not provide the load-bearing capability that I needed. I had to beef up the entire structure to serve my purpose. .
