I installed an Orbit system 23 years ago using the lowest priced heads they made, They were screw tops back then. They have since discontinued these at this price level. They were very reliable.
This sprinkler head has bayonet type tops that have holes molded into the top that reduces friction on the seal allowing an easier twist to connect them to the body. The holes create 4 weak points between each hole causing the heads to crack from the water pressure pushing upward on the cap. This allows the top to leak which you won't notice in tall grass. This wastes your water until eventual failure creates a water spout when the cap blows apart. I water at night so a lot of water was wasted until discovery.
I believe the plastics used cannot hold up to winter weather and then the heat of summer. This makes the plastic become brittle which causes failure, although some caps blew immediately upon install which means current plastics are not the correct type. Older purchased heads of this model did last a bit longer, but the latest batch has a very short in life, 0 to 1 year tops.
I have complained to Orbit in the past about this design to no avail. I recently called them again and asked them for free replacement of the broken tops. They agreed. You can do this too, but remember, they will blow apart again so I suggest you start to look at something or somewhere else to replace all of them. I am going to Rainbird.
Why Home Depot continues to carry this model is beyond me. And believe it or not, our water company here in Denver has rebates on this model. That's nuts.

The top of the cap blew on every single sprinkler of the 5I installed upon first turn on. Some blew immediately som adter up to 5 minutes. I had bought some extras so I replaced the caps and the new caps blew out again... I have fairly high water pressure of about 90 psi at my house but this never happened to my RainBird sprinkler heads. The design of the cap is really bad. They cheaped out on the material. Compare to the caps on the RainBird sprinkler and you will see the difference. I see on the label that they rated the flow rate of these sprinklers at 45 psi so I am wondering if these are designed for lower pressure systems. There is no max pressure rating on the label however... Either way I will not buy these again.

I bought a bunch of these to make standard in my yard. What a mistake. The top cap breaks easily when in use. I've had to replace all of the ones I installed. If they fixed that defect it would be a nice sprinkler head at that price.

Worked ok but then they the tops started blowing off them one by one. I ended up having to dig up and replace ALL 18 HEADS!. Bottom line don't try and save a couple bucks by buying junk not only do you lose your initial investment but you have to re-dig and then buy a better product.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by TrustMe should be half the price
I bought about 4-5 of these to replace leaking sprinkler heads in a new property. Works good for 1 week to 1-2 months, then you have a geyser in your yard! Every single one that I bought has broken without failure in the same way. Made me not even want to trust Orbit products at all anymore. Matter of fact, I wouldn't even buy another one for half the price. Stick with Rainbird sprinkler products.
