Yes it has both the 14" and 20" chain. Note the 14" bar is seated in a slot under the carrying case. I thought it was missing until I looked.

Are parts available
Asked by: Jess
Outside of Home Depot, no chain saw store will have ever seen a Blue Max. You better get comfortable wrenching on it yourself as well as ordering parts from the 1 (800) #.

One thing Id suggest to the manufacturer is that the chain tightening be redesigned. 1) It doesn't stay at the tightness that you set, 2) The mechanism is a cheap steel that strips quickly, and 3) The whole thing uses the plastic cover to press off, which ultimately cracked on mine. Hence, why Im on the website trying to order replacement parts.

Chain tightening setup is a little different from most saws, but is actually convenient. The engine doesn't have a primer bulb but starts easily enough. I have probably 30 minutes of cutting and the chain still has maintained it's edge.

I purchased the Blue Max because the price was right and my Husqvarna had already been repaired once at cost just about equal to the asking price of this saw. Took a chance and was very pleasantly surprised. First of all the saw starts easily in three pulls once you have run your first tank out. The automatic chain oiler actually works with a moist coat oil around the bar when you finish your cutting. Further, instructions are included on how to change the oiling rate just in case it is needed! It hasn't leaked yet when turned off either. The engine is smooth and powerful and the saw cuts really fast. I have not used the 20" bar yet, but I don't expect it will be a challenge. I did take the two year extended warranty for a few $ more just in case. The saw is a little noisy, but you need ear protection for any chain saw, the 40:1 gas to oil is a little high compared to the usual 50:1 but no big deal. The plastic mixing bottle is helpful if you anticipate running out two tanks in a cutting, but you will get better accuracy if you mix more fuel at a time and then use the bottle to extend cutting time. I only use ethanol-free gasoline which you can purchase in most states - just look them up on the web. This saw cuts VERY fast so stay alert. Great so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with it May dad laughed when I pulled out this saw. "Should've bought a Stihl," he said. Yet I think even he grudgingly bought-in after hearing the price and watching it in action. Used to clear long-neglected ATV trail which required a lot of stop and go, moving from one deadfall to the next. After almost 2 full tanks of gas, didn't have any of the warm starting problems other reviewers noted. Started warm over and over again with one or two pulls. Cut mostly hardwood (red oak, poplar, beech), several of which were at least as thick as the 20" bar and some were still wet. Pound for pound I don't think it has the power or torque of a Stihl but had no problems as long as I let the saw do the work and didn't overburden it or try to cut too quickly. Quality of the chain seems fine. As good as any other low-kick-back, homeowner chain. I was careful to keep it out of the dirt and it's still relatively sharp. Comes with a file. Did have some early problems with slack but it's my experience that most new chains stretch a little. Tensioner requires a bit more effort compared to some of the more expensive saws but it's not bad. And it comes with the tool. Only real complaints are that it seems heavy and I don't like the toggle on/off switch. In fairness to the saw, I really noticed the heaviness about 4 hours-in, after a lot of work for a desk jockey. The toggle switch I accidentally hit with my glove or a branch a couple times and turned the saw off. Wonder how many other reviewers did the same thing and then struggled with starting again until they realized to flip it back on? Agree with the other reviewers that this is not a $600 saw. It "feels" cheaper. The plastic doesn't seem as strong, the drive gear looks soft, and it's a bit short on power with the 20" bar. Even the blue color just doesn't feel very tough. A tree professional would probably break it in a week. Might last a couple seasons for someone that heats with wood. But I bought it for occasional weekend trail cleaning and light duty around my suburban yard. If you anticipate similar use then this is an excellent value. Note - like any other small engine, you will lose performance and lifespan by using old ethanol-based gas without a stabilizer. Particularly important to remember with something like a chainsaw that might sit in your garage full of gas for a year or two until the next tree falls.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK Saw with Major Defect When I first bought this saw I really liked it. It was easy to start and was good at cutting down all different sizes of trees. However, after a few months of using it, it started to leak oil. I tried to get it repaired at 2 different shops and within a few uses, it started to leak again. After awhile I just gave up and put it in a tray to catch and oil sitting in the reservoir. I would not recommend it after that experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good purchase for reasonable price I was looking at buying a more expensive chain saw for my 120 acres. Instead I bought this one first. Beats my other Homelite and Poulan. Not sure if its apple to apples but this chain is thicker and heavier duty than the other two. I had to tighten the chain once after going through about 20 trees. I've only used it a couple of times but have been very very happy with the quality, ease of start and cutting ability. Might buy several before getting a $400 version. Was a little heavy for my wife but I'm not sure there is a gas powered light enough. Also, she couldn't start it. I had no trouble with one pull while holding it in my hand

Thought a Poulan would be the better buy but after reading the reviews I decided the Blue Max would be much more versatile with the 20 inch and 14 inch blades. The review that changed my mind the most was the guy that used chainsaws on a regular basis stating that he had Stihl chainsaws and that this chainsaw cut every bit as good. Honestly I don't use chainsaws all that often but a rather large tree fell in the front yard during hurricane Mathew and my little 14 inch electric chainsaw just wasn't going to do the job so I figured I'd spend the extra $20.00 to $30.00 to get the 20inch blade. Boy am I glad I did the Blue Max cut through the tree like it was butter I had a friend watching me as I cut it and he also witnessed just how quickly the chainsaw went through the tree and the longer blade came in handy as the trunk of the tree was very thick and the few extra few inches of the blade was very much needed. I will say though that unless you have a large tree to cut down you may want to consider a smaller motor as the 45 cc engine on this chainsaw is a bit on the heavier side but it is nice to have that extra power if you can handle the weight Very impressive chainsaw! Oh and by the way thank you home depot for putting it on sale just when I needed it as I only spent $10.00 more than the 16 [nch bladed Poulan that I had been considering and you can't beat the value of the 2 size blades that come with it! Outstanding!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from extraordinary workhorse! twice the saw, for half the money of it's peers. I have read the bad reviews about this brand and I can report that all of it is from misuse. do not overpull the startrope. 3" pop is all that is needed. accurately measure the fuel mix. 1/2oz of 2 cycle oil to 20oz of gas is a 40/1 mixture. do not manhandle the choke knob, and do not attempt to adjust chain tension with the bar nuts still torqued. learn to sharpen like a pro and this will be the most impressive saw you could ever own. cuts thru 3' hickory like butter. any hardwood is no match for this bad Oscar. I have had all the overpriced saws and none are equal. thanks bluemax, this is an excellent saw...
