I don't know the exact weight, but it is not very heavy. It is a two-person job to load it in a large trunk or truck bed, but only because it is a good-sized box. I doubt the whole thing weighs 60 lbs. I took mine home in a friend's Prius. Hope that helps!

Answer:
I forget what was printed on the carton, but I would guess that with the rock installed, the unit is around 40 pounds. It is definitely movable by one person but I would recommend 2 people because it is quite big (34 inch square) so it is awkward to move by one person even though not too overly heavy.

Is there a flat cover provided (or otherwise available) to simply cover the actual pit when not in use to make like a table?

I have seen this offered on many models outside of HD. When not in use, a flat cover just for the actual pit would make the entire top of this into a flat table.

No cover other than the cloth one to keep the moisture out. It should be easy enough to make one to fit. the pit height seems perfect to convert to a table top. We have a glass top table that we may use the glass to cover the top of the pit.

If you wanted to cut a piece of wood to accomplish that task, then you'd also have to ensure that your lava rock does not heap up higher than the flat outside surfaces. The rock area is only 2 in deep and you probably want the rock heaped higher in the middle to help provide ample cover, heat transference and flame dispersion to the flame ring. That said, you could build something that would provide additional spacers around the outside edge to account for the higher lava rock in the middle and provide a nice table surface. Spacers would not add substantially to the overall height (this fire pit is very attractively low already!). Read Less

In my case, my porch is 60% open with floor to ceiling screens and my ceiling is at least 10ft height above where I placed the pit. I've got more than ample ventilation and I'm not worried about any flames hitting the ceiling. After that, I've adhered to the rest of the safety precautions with furniture placement and the propane tank placement and I am satisfied that this is a safe setup.
We have extended the use of our porch by a few more months because we can be comfortable sitting outside on cooler evenings. Read Less

Answer:
As long as there is sufficient flow through ventilation you should be OK. Keep in mind that the by-product of a propane flame will be carbon monoxide.
If not vented properly, it can be dangerous. NEVER let it burn unattended and NEVER have an open window anyplace near the open fire pit flame.
Be safe and enjoy your evening.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 62 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent value. Looks good. Warm. Built-in piezoelectric igniter for easy lighting. PROS: * Looks good. * Built-in piezoelectric starter eliminates the need for matches or lighters. * Built-in thermocouple prevents gas-flow if there is no flame. * Lights easily (if you keep the knob depressed until flame is established & thermocouple is warmed). * Provides nice warmth & attractive, adjustable fire. * Easy to assemble. It took me 35 minutes. * Doesn't get so hot that you have to worry about using it under a most patio roofs. * The Included lava rocks looks good. (I like it better than fire-glass for our patio decor.) * Inexpensive. Great value. * Vinyl cover (tan colored) protects the fire pit from rain, etc. when not in use. CONS: * Burner bar is circular so the flame is kinda circular, rather than throughout square basin. * I'm worried that the paint for the faux-oil-rubbed bronze finish will eventually get scratched. I've only owned the Titan fire pit for a week but so far I'm very happy with it. Some reviewers said that they had trouble starting it, and I did too until I read the instructions. You must depress the knob, turn it counterclockwise until it clicks (which creates a piezoelectric spark that ignites the propane) AND THEN YOU MUST KEEP THE KNOB DEPRESSED (~4 seconds) until the flame is established (and the safety-enhancing thermocouple has warmed enough to permit propane gas to flow). If you don't hold in the knob to warm-up the thermocouple, then the initial flame will instantly go out. It may be worth noting that the unit includes a vinyl cover for the fire-pit (to protect it from rain, etc.) but there is no cover for the propane tank. (My tank is hidden behind a love seat.) There is a steel base for a standard 5-gallon propane tank to give the tank stability so that it doesn't get knocked over. I have no need for that propane tank base and I didn't bother even trying to use it. August 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product for the Price I had been looking for a suitable gas table fire pit. But prices were greater than $1,000. Wife found this at Home Depot. Bought and had it up and running in 30 minutes or less. Enjoyed our dinner and wine by the warmth of the fire. Granted, if you look too close you will see why it is only priced at $179 and not much more. I think it does what is advertised and does it well. Heat output was sufficient when sitting close. It provides us with a another reason to sit outdoors after the sun goes down. And it doesn't look bad, the color is good and I think it will weather well April 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fire Pit I was researching fire pits online for awhile for my front porch and ended up buying this fire pit last night. It was very simple to put together, only took about 20 minutes. It is a simple design but looks good. My favorite part about it and the reason I went with this one is because the heat output was higher than most fire pits in this price range (50,000). It is definitely a good amount of heat. The only downfall, if there is one, would be that the propane tank is housed outside the unit, although the hose is long enough to be able to hide it away. Also I will be replacing the lava rock with fire pit glass to make it prettier. Other than that, it is a great buy, and I would recommend this fire pit to anyone who doesn't want to break the bank on a fire pit but wants to enjoy a cool evening in comfort. June 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Easy to use, quick to fire up for kids smores and no more smokey clothes for camp fires May 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice fire pit/table Overall pleased with the fire pit. I added medium sizes glass rock instead of the lava rock. I also added a 34" x 34" piece of glass on top of it to use as a table when the fire pit is not on. I'm happy with the size of the flame unlike some of the other reviews. I would recommend. April 30, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Super easy and great good looking fire pit We saw this fire pit at the clearance area for 129.99 while the price might not be lowest (I saw one river paid $89) it is still considerable lower than any other propane fire pit in the market . So we bought it and brought it home, put it together in less than 15 mins and as easy as turning the know the flame was on. I love it! The ones that claimed that the flame is less than 2" is probably defective cause this one makes a real flame ! Only four stars cause the tank is a eye sore but I'll figure it out March 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't Believe Everything You Read One should question the multitude of 4 and 5 star reviews of this product. Sadly, I feel as I was taken in by the reviews only to be disappointed with the product. I am usually more skeptical about a product when there are no negative reviews. I really wanted this product to work as advertised. Although I have no foundation or proof; my intuition tells me that the reviews for this product were provided by professional review writers who do nothing more than write positive reviews to bolster product sales and product placement. But don't let my words alone deter your purchase... Instead, let my other 1000 words (in the form of the posted picture) help make your decision. Flames 2 to 10 inches? And 50,000 BTU output...Not even close. I used 2 different 100% full propane tanks just to be sure. You can view the Day 1 product use (fresh out of the box) on the first night at the link provided below. Needless to say, this hunk of junk is going back to Home Depot tomorrow. October 18, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great LP Fire Pit for the cost Good value on a propane fire pit, even with a full cylinder the average flame height is only 2" but it still generates quite a bit of heat. It works well underneath our cloth top and sided gazebo. When connecting the line give the gas time to push the air out before trying to light the flame. January 6, 2015
