Answer:
Hello Russell,
A 54 foot roll of Instabind will cover a rug with the size of 12 x 15 ft.
If you do the math, you will come up with a perimeter of 180 ft.
Therefore, it really shouldn't say "square" feet, only 180 feet in perimeter.
I apologize for any confusion.
Have a wonderful day!
Warm regards,
Elizabeth

Russell - It's 54 linear feet. The square footage is wrong and will be corrected shortly.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 23 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really like this product I don't believe this product is carried in the store, but it should be! It would really help to pick the right color. Thankfully I chose well when ordering online, and the binding matched my carpet remnant perfectly. It was as easy to install as possible, considering this is something that needs to stay intact while being walked on consistently. The instructions were easy to follow. I wish the binding were cheaper, but I still saved a ton of money making my own rug versus buying one in-store. My carpet remnant was purchased from Nebraska Furniture Mart for $100, and it was 10'x12'. The binding was about $50. I cut the rug down to about 8.5'x10.5'. So I got a large area rug to go under a king size bed for about $150 (I did have to buy a hot glue gun with a smaller nozzle). Plus, I have binding and rug pieces left over that I can make two more rugs to go in front of our bathroom sinks. October 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product! We saved $$$ binding 2 nice carpet remnants myself. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome product! I purchased a large piece of carpet remnant and decided to use this to finish it, so we could use it as a rug. This stuff is easy to use and looks just as if a professional did it! I will be buying again. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use - looks great This was very easy to install. I cut two area rugs from a remnant: an 8 x 10 and a circle w/an 8' diameter. This went on very easily and looks great. I gave it an "average" for quality because I bought the cheap stuff: "regular". It comes with instructions. You'll need a glue gun. I got one from Amazon: Adhesive Technologies 0443 Two-Temp cordless glue gun for $15 (and you'll have to buy glue sticks too). Don't know if this is the best glue gun for the job but it worked great for me. Tips: leave your remnant inside for a day or two to warm up if it's cold so it will lay flat for cutting. Use a long straight edge (and a square for the corners) and a very sharp box cutter to cut. It will look a lot better when finished if your cuts are clean and straight. February 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great! We got new wall to wall carpeting installed and had quite a bit left over carpet after the install and wanted to make some "runners" to protect high traffic areas. I have an industrial sewing machine but decided to try this binding to try it out. Its fairly easy and straight forward but make sure you have a descent glue gun. A 20w gun just wont cut it unless your a very patient person (which I'm not) and will be waiting on the glue gun to keep heating up your glue as you go. There is an excellent you tube video online that shows you exactly how to do this. Its a bit pricey but works well and cheaper than buying area rugs or runners that don't quite match..... Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks Great This product is easy to work with and apply (you need a glue gun). The instructions were simple and easy to follow. I ended up with a professional looking finished product. January 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Need to order more than what you think you will need. Great stuff I really like it. But it says it is 54 feet long well mine was about 51 or 52 feet long each packet came up about 6 feet short. December 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Made large area rug for my nursery, looks professional. Highly recommended. October 20, 2015
