Answer:
Hello Russell,
A 54 foot roll of Instabind will cover a rug with the size of 12 x 15 ft.
If you do the math, you will come up with a perimeter of 180 ft.
Therefore, it really shouldn't say "square" feet, only 180 feet in perimeter.
I apologize for any confusion.
Have a wonderful day!
Warm regards,
Elizabeth

Regular Carpet Binding in Tan is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product! I purchased a large piece of carpet remnant and decided to use this to finish it, so we could use it as a rug. This stuff is easy to use and looks just as if a professional did it! I will be buying again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! We got new wall to wall carpeting installed and had quite a bit left over carpet after the install and wanted to make some "runners" to protect high traffic areas. I have an industrial sewing machine but decided to try this binding to try it out. Its fairly easy and straight forward but make sure you have a descent glue gun. A 20w gun just wont cut it unless your a very patient person (which I'm not) and will be waiting on the glue gun to keep heating up your glue as you go. There is an excellent you tube video online that shows you exactly how to do this. Its a bit pricey but works well and cheaper than buying area rugs or runners that don't quite match.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very useful I was able to make use of all the remnants from my carpet install. Easy product to use. Recommend a glue gun with a long fine point if you really want a great finish. I used a larger point glue gun at first and caught some glue in the carpet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use - looks great This was very easy to install. I cut two area rugs from a remnant: an 8 x 10 and a circle w/an 8' diameter. This went on very easily and looks great. I gave it an "average" for quality because I bought the cheap stuff: "regular". It comes with instructions. You'll need a glue gun. I got one from Amazon: Adhesive Technologies 0443 Two-Temp cordless glue gun for $15 (and you'll have to buy glue sticks too). Don't know if this is the best glue gun for the job but it worked great for me. Tips: leave your remnant inside for a day or two to warm up if it's cold so it will lay flat for cutting. Use a long straight edge (and a square for the corners) and a very sharp box cutter to cut. It will look a lot better when finished if your cuts are clean and straight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Carpet binding The binding worked quite well. The colors matched the computer colors well and we were satisfied. The runners we worked on had rounded corners and had some difficulty bending the bead around them-but it did work. Nothing is going to replace original factory edging but this is not bad. We would recommend this to others. (Square corners would be easier and I think I woulld recomment more pliable beading. I think stronger adhesive would work better also.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product major time saver. This product is a real time saver. My installers were able to apply a trimmed edge on my open stair carpet runner the same day. My only other option would have been to send it off and wait two weeks then schedule for him to return. I even did some myself with the left over and made some small mats. This stuff is really cool!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product This was a really good buy and I would definitely recommend it. The Malt color wasn't quite as dark as it appeared in the picture, but it worked nonetheless. I found a video on the company site/youtube that showed how to install. Very easy, but a little time consuming.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Suprisingly good product Cutting and gluing with the self sticking backing was fairly easy. However using a glue gun took a very long time. I had to wait for my glue gun to melt the glue. I recommend a high wattage glue gun. The finished product looks very good. No one would suspect that it id a DIY job by looking at it.
