Customer Questions & Answers

does this tub need mortar to level??

Asked by: Anonymous
There is no foam pad on this tub. Also, when set, there is about a 2" or more gap. I would still dump down a bag of durabond for added protection. You get a 300 pounder in there, and the porcelain will flex and develop cracks, then rust. I like the old, non-sandable durabond in the brown bag, not the "lite" for this application. Staple down some roofing felt first, so that the next guy doesn't curse your name.

is there a drain kit for this tub/

i am replacing a standard tub with this one. Is there a way to make sure the drain lines up to the drain pipe sice its shorter?

you can buy a PVC trap kit where you cut and glue 1 1/2" PVC to make a tub drain. You can extend the drain to your current trap this way. It's actually better as you don't have any mechanical connections (slip joints).

The first one to arrive did in fact have a quarter sized spot that didn't have enamel on it and the packing looked perfect so it came from the factory that way. The second one had glue on it but all the enamel was intact. I was able to stay on schedule by ordering two. I'm grateful they offer a tub this size at a price this low. Thanks Home Depot!

Tub arrived undamaged, fit into the tight space I had was a whole lot cheaper @ $170 than a custom tiled shower pan would have been. Its now installed with concrete board & tile walls. Waiting on the plumber to finish up the water lines. I am 6' tall and plan on using it as a shower but most kids and wives could use it as a tub with no problem. It met all my expectations.

I ordered this tub for a basement bath reno of an existing shower space to avoid having to tear down walls and rebuild the entire space to accommodate a standard sized tub. The first tub arrived at my local Home Depot chipped pretty badly. My contractor suggested calling and having the second order packing with wood framing to prevent damage during shipping. They refused because it's an inexpensive tub (third party supplier-not Home Depot). The second one arrived chipped and damaged badly as well. My contractor had wasted already hours going to Home Depot to pick it up and waiting to deal w/customer service etc. Each time this happened the project was pushed back another 10 days. Store manager ws very nice but this was out of his control. Eventually the 3rd tub arrived in good shape and it does look really nice, however it was really inconvenient and frustrating dealing with this. When I checked other companies that carry this tub (which is the only 46 inch tub on the market, anyplace!) everyone had similar experience. Was a lesson learned! Never order anything w/out reading all the reviews, majority report similar experiences to mine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 48" tub for low price :) Installed by professional plumber; no problems. They said it was average quality. The bottom is gritty which is bad attempt at non-skid. But other than that, it's a 48" tub that is only 27" wide for a good price. We used it to convert a half bath to a full. We ordered it to arrive at the local Home Depot store; no shipping charge. First one we got home and it had enamel missing; returned it no problem. Second one the store opened the box and it was fine. We stored it in garage for 2 months until time to install and no more enamel fell off; think it was shipping damage on the 1st one. Pic is from unfinished project, but you can see the tub was fine.

All three were damaged but I was able to hide the damage on the last one. The shipping containers seemed to be in good condition and the location of the damage would indicate the damage was not caused during shipment. It would seem you have a quality control issue. If I could have found a different supplier at an acceptable price, I would have gone elsewhere. Your poor quality control delayed my project by a month. Imagine a family of five not having a bathroom a month longer than necessary.

We now have three of these in our 4-plex with small bathrooms in each apartment. They fit the 4' width of the bathrooms perfectly. They are good quality and look nice. The only problem is that the shipping box does not adequately protect the face of the tub, so our first tub arrived damaged, we re-ordered, and when the second tub arrived damaged we had to use it because of time constraints. Home Depot treated us well, and we feel OK because we were compensated, though we would have preferred to pay full price and have an undamaged tub.

I saw that other reviewers complained about this item arriving damaged, so I made sure to check it at Home Depot before accepting it. Sure enough, there was a dime-sized ding along the top edge that would have been clearly visible after installation. The packaging was intact, which makes me think it came from the manufacturer this way, and if that's true, their quality control is terrible. I immediately returned the item, and after a discussion with my contractor, we decided to reconfigure the bathroom so we could use a conventional 5 foot tub. (That cost more money of course but at least it was possible.) I'm giving it three stars only because I'm glad that someone makes an inexpensive 4 foot tub. Looking around the Internet, I can't find any other option in this price range.

But as previous raters have said, it was beat up in the box. The box appeared in good shape, and handled well. However, once opened the upper rails were bent, the inside sloped area had a 'through the coating' scratch. I had a time limit on this remodel (small bathroom\shower to small bathroom with shower\tub) so a second order was not feasible. The Home Depot personnel immediately offered a discount, and I accepted the item. On to the next project.
