Customer Questions & Answers

does the tub come with the drain kit? if it doesn't, what drain should I get?

Asked by: mike
No. And when I asked my plumber, he said the pvc drain kit is better. Doesn't corrode. Lasts longer.

Can you install ceramic tile above this tub?

I would like to replace our current tub and wall shower unit with this tub and put ceramic tile above it. Is it possible with this tub? I noticed there is a lip on the top edge of tub, can you simply put wonderboard flush with that so that tile can be place in front of the edge of tub on the back and both ends?
Asked by: Ashley
Yes you can, I did

Mauicast max water depth

Does the Mauicast tub have the same max water depth as the uninsulated version of the tub. I assume this would be 13 7/8" based on the height of the overflow above the drain but this contradicts a prior answer from Bootz support.
Asked by: Royale
My ruler shows about a foot difference between the bottom and the overflow. It's about 14" to the top ledge.

This tub has the solid thump and insulative qualities of a cast iron tub, but it weighs approx 120 lbs, not 350. The insulation pad on the bottom allows the tub to sit flat on a level base without any further support. The deeper soaking depth is nice, and the sloping back is comfortable. The bottom is non-slip. I replaced both tubs in my house with this model, by myself, which would have been impossible with a heavy cast iron unit.

The tub looked great out of the box but after a mere 10 months, there are two chips (and a third on the way) in the tub. We did not use any abrasive cleaner, bleach, etc. This is incredibly frustrating because we have no recourse other than to uninstall the tub (and sink) and redo the tile, which is financially not feasible for us. I guess we have to live with it. I can only imagine how many cracks we'll have as time goes on. I would have gladly paid more money for a more durable tub had I known about this problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent tub for the price! Nice tub for the price, I would recommend having it shipped to the local store, which will allow for inspection before taking delivery. There was an area by the drain and one on one of the flanges. my installer determine the tile and drain assembly would cover these. Once installed, it looks great and seems to hold the water at a warm temperature longer than the tub it replaced, which was installed in 1980. Only negative are two pin head size flaws in the porcelain finish, two on the bottom amd two on the apron. My eagle eye wife found these. Again for the price a good tub.

Please be aware this bathtub is not a true white color, it's more like off white. It did not match the Delta toilet I previously bought so I had to return it. Also the finish is not smooth and resembles a bad mild orange peel paint job. If it weren't for these two issues I would have kept it, since it is about the only deep steel tub available.
