Purchased this at Irvington. Tried to drill a 3" hole with it. The bit jammed almost every time I fed it into the wood. I was using a drill press, and the board was clamped down so nothing would move. I fed the bit into the wood as slow as I could and it jammed almost every time, requiring me to back the bit out by turning the chuck backwards manually after turning the power off to the drill press.
Whoever designed this bid knows nothing about either wood or the tools to work it. The screw feed on the bit is copied from a brace and bit bit, which is a spiral, rather than spade bit, and meant to be turned slowly by hand. The screw takes hold of the wood and draws the bit in, stalling it. You have to feed it so slowly, which is almost impossible. Surely, it would be impossible with a hand drill, rather than a drill press. I am surprised there aren't more complaints. I have been a woodworker for 50 years and studied under a grandfather who was a carpenter. He would reject this bit. ... Don't buy it. Look for one without a screw-type pilot.

I used this bit to drill through the bottom of a cabinet for setting a new microwave.
The hole was to push the power cord head through. This bit is the perfect size for the 110V cord.
This bit has a threaded tip, which grabs quickly, and pulls itself through the wood effortlessly. Very little splintering.
Highly recommend this well designed bit.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DrDagogo The bit bent!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this bit to drill some holes thru 2x studs to run some romex wiring. The screw lead point is helpful at getting the hole started and pulls the spade into the wood. The bit did make holes, BUT the shaft bent (at the narrowest diameter) in normal use. It is going back.
I could take a picture and attach it, but it is not worth the effort.

It's a well made bit - BUT - once the threaded auger portion of the bit penetrated far enough into the work to gain purchase, it pulled the work up into the bit with such force that it shredded the work and stalled the drill so completely that it was in danger of being burned out (smoke was coming from the motor). It might be a good choice if you are using a very heavy duty drill and planning to drill completely through the work, but I wanted to cut a countersink hole for a fender washer and bolt so the head of the bolt would be flush with the work surface. It was very difficult to control and over-drilled the depth of the hole. I gave up and used my plunge router for the rest of the holes.

I needed to drill a hole in my new microwave oven cabinet for the power cord. Since I may never need to drill a 1 1/4-inch hole again, I didn't want to spend a pile of money. Yet I needed something that would do a tidy job, without leaving ragged edges or delaminatiing the plywood (I will NOT buy anything made with particle board). This bit did a fine job.
I bought the bit for a specific small, simple task that should by rights have gone smoothly without costing a fortune, and (for a change) that's exactly what happened.
