We have bought several of these for our company and the newer models have held up very well. Everyday we are using 8 of these grinders 8+ hours per day. Each has lasted 10-14 months without any problems.

This grinder seems to be well made and it feels really good in the hands. I haven’t really used it in action yet but I’m looking forward to it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PapaB A great tool for log home finish prep
After a seminar on how to prepare my log home for the exterior finish coat, I ordered the Bosch 11 amp 5 in. corded grinder to be used with an Osborn abrasive brush. In addition to the power and size, my primary requirements were variable speed and locking switch.
While I am still in the process of finishing my logs, I am extremely pleased with the Bosh grinder so far. I can lock it on at about 1500-2000rpm, and, with the brush, it takes my gray logs back to near new appearance very quickly with just a light touch on the wood. I'm impressed that this tool, which seems smaller and lighter than others I looked at, allows me to apply just the right force for the task without wearing me out before I can finish the job.
Because of other reviews, and advice from the seminar, I'm very careful to blow the dust off the tool with compressed air after each use, which will hopefully prolong bearing life. I'll update this review if premature wear becomes an issue.

Quite excited for a new grinder to compliment my varying assortment of 4-1/2” grinders ranging from $15 “overseas special”. The grinder arrived well packaged and included an initial Bosch Type 27, 5” metal grinding wheel (7/8” arbor hole). Assembly is fairly easy and the instruction booklet is well written. One word of caution regarding the booklet … the paper feels like newsprint and is quite thin. Be sure to keep the booklet stored out of the sunlight & away from liquids, etc. or else you may find yourself trying to find a new booklet. Back to assembly … The wheel guard is indexed. You must insert it 180° off “normal” position. It is SNUG to rotate to your operating position. This appears to be normal. The grinder has a unique feature that allows you to lock the wheel guard in multiple positions giving the user an angled ‘Operating Zone’. Nice feature! The handle simply screws in for left or right handed operation & the anti-vibration cushion to the handle seems to work well for me. The handle is at a slight angle & not perpendicular to the body of the grinder … this makes for better wrist alignment for extended use. The grinder includes a ‘Backing Flange which is keyed to the shaft for easy identification, followed by your grinding wheel & then a ‘lock nut’. Pay special attention to the orientation of the ‘lock nut’ in regards to the grinding disc (on page 12 of the Manual). The kit includes a special spanner wrench to tighten the ‘lock nut’ & a Red Button on the grinder head is a spindle lock so no tools needed to prevent the shaft from rotating while tightening the ‘lock nut’. Another nice feature!
On to operation … The cord is good quality & long enough for standard operation. It is strain relieved with the grinder for durable use. Standard 2-prong, 115v plug. The body of the grinder is fairly smooth. I would have preferred it have some texture to it for added grip, use & stability. The on/off/momentary switch is located on the left side of the grinder. For me, as a right handed person, this feels natural. I attempted to use as a “lefty” & the switch location was very awkward. If you are a “lefty”, please try for yourself though! The switch can be used as momentary by holding in it the on position but it takes a little more effort to lock the switch into a constant on position. The switch has a fair amount of resistance … a little more than I care for but it might loosen up a bit over time. One of the best things I found was the variable speed adjustment which can be found on the butt end of the grinder, above the exit location of the power cord. Easy to adjust yet out of the way so it doesn’t accidentally get changed. I didn’t realize, at first glance, that this was variable speed! Bonus & VERY HELPFUL at the same time! Access to the motor brushes is easy via the (2) black panels; one on top, one on the bottom.
Overall feel … though it is noticeable heavier, or so it feels, the grinder has great power & the ability to adjust the speed allows me to feather-grind welds or just all-out attack the metal at full speed! Being that it is a 5” grinder, means I need to duplicate/stock more when sizes & choices so that may be a little bummer.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JJ Better than average
Very powerful, high noise range, and bulky for one hand. Good for hardcore grinding and getting the tough jobs done. I wasn't very fond of the on and off locking switch as it was difficult to use one-handed. It locks in the on position too easily and is hard to unlock.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by harts1225 Great varible speed grinder for the money
I bought 2 these grinders to use with Osborn Brushes to remove finish from a Log Home were refinishing. These brushes need to be used at about 1400 rpm so needed a variable speed grinder. One of them did shut down on a 90* plus day. It had collected a lot of dust from the brushing process. We used air to blow out the dust and clean it. Started back up after cooling off and used it for several days after that. Lesson learned !! We regularly cleaned them with compressed air after that. Very satisfied and they did the job we were needing them for.
