Customer Questions & Answers

Drill Bit Size

Can the SDS-Max Rotary Hammer take the following drill bit size - 5/8" x 36" Bosch HC5022
Asked by: CayB
Yes, take your time drilling the hole if your going into solid concrete that's a long way. Pull the bit out regularly to clean out the dust, that will help it not to bind up.

Up to 3"pipe.understand this is not avail now. Is there a adapter? From the new drill. To my old bits?
Asked by: ron
No, you can only go from the larger which would be the spline bit to the smaller which is the SDS Max.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful hammer that delivers when matters Bosch 1-9/16 in. SDS-Max Rotary Hammer comes in a decent size lockable case with some extra room to store few bits to get the job done. For masonry material, this is an awesome hammer with serious power. I have used it in variety of tasks and I find it very smooth, powerful and easy to use. For bit changing, it does not have a quick insert but locking sleeve mechanism works just as nice and easy. It’s well thought, well balanced hammer, all the controls are perfectly located and easy to change while operating. The side handle is of good size and provides good grip with gloves on. I love its 360 easily rotatable handle which is very handy when changing tool’s positions during demolition. Installing a Radon mitigation system, I used it to drill 5” deep holes in the concrete floor, used hammer/chisel to chip out a 5” wide hole for PVC vent pipe and then made a 5” core on a single skin wall with segmented diamond bit. It performed very well without fatiguing my wrist and arms. Also, on the dust extraction, it delivered above my expectations. I am very happy with its performance and capability. I must mention that Bosch is the SDS system inventor and the brand certainly knows how to deliver on this technology. Overall, its powerful motor truly provides hard/fast drilling, chiseling and demolition. I love the tool and recommend it with confidence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bosch is my goto for hammer drills Already had a Bosch Bull Dog but needed to have the ability to drill bigger holes without going to a spline bit. Bought the SDS Plus adapter so I can use the smaller bit's with this drill without having both drills out at the same time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SDS Max Rotary Hammer This is an SDS Max Rotary Hammer, which differs from the smaller SDS Plus Rotary Hammer (see my video for a side by side comparison of the bits). This is a heavy tool (14.2 pounds), it has to be to be able to provide a whopping 6.1 ft. lbs of impact energy and deliver 1,200 to 2,750 blows per minute. The tool-free bit changes, and automatic bit locking, make for fast setup and swap out of bits. The bit rotates and locks into 12 different positions, and the variable speed ensures the right speed for the job. The ancillary handle is fully adjustable to any of 360 degrees around the tool. Where using a chisel to lift old tiles, or a drill bit to power through masonry, this bad boy has the power to do it all, and much more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for me If you let this tool's weight work for you it is a very agreeable product. Adjustable handle for control/stability makes horizontal work a breeze. All in all like it so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty awesome tool to have I have been using this product for the past month or so doing with it whatever it's capable of doing. I purchased a 8 bits for it to do various tasks and to test it's limits. I first used a Bosch clay spade to help with the hard clay and shale in the bottom of post hole footings and needed to use a point bit but it worked wonders in assisting to dig the hole to the required depth. I have needed to rely on a digging iron in the past and they just tear up your hands and wear you out quickly throwing a 40lb tool into a hole to break up the earth. Now my hands feel great with the exception of the shakes you have from jittering a tool for long periods on hammer mode. The tool has the power to do quite a lot and the pros and cons I personally discovered are as follows: Pros: The tool is of a superior build quality and has the power you should expect from the brand and the price. It has all functions you should expect for a tool in this price range. It feels like a quality tool with quite a bit of heft and though heavy, it initially feels comfortable in your hands. When using the tool vertical, in most cases, the weight of the tool is enough to load the bit as well while you simply just hold the tool instead of using weight packs to assist which helps to not wear the user out so quickly. The chuck is simple to use and tight around the bit to prevent much debris from entering into the chuck. Also, the selector switch is tight and switches with a bit of force and should not easily be forced out of selection while doing tasks. Cons: I would have liked a slightly longer cord but that's a bit picky. No other major cons except for weight, which is a PRO specifically for using this tool without applying your own force. Apart from the tool specifically, the bit are expensive and I wish some longer lengths were available without the need of an extension which is also an added expense when you need it. I highly recommend this product for many of the heavy duty tasks as breaking through a CMU wall, concrete floor, digging tough earth and many, many more reasons. With that, I strongly urge you to research the bits prior to completely committing to this tool so you understand the expense that comes with it in order to completely use it to its fullest potential.
