Asked by: rafael
Thank you for your question. Yes, you can use a 2" diameter router bit with our RA1181 router table. This router table includes three tabletop inserts: 1" diameter for use with bits with diameters up to 7/8"; 2" diameter for use with bits up to 1-7/8"; 2-3/4" diameter for use with bits up to 2-5/8" and no insert is used for bits with diameters over 2-5/8" and up to 3-1/2". Do not use bits over 3-1/2" diameter.

Is the base of the router table made of plastic, metal or a composite material and is it molded or machined?

Concerned about the durability and susceptibility of fractures.

Asked by: jason
UPDATE: So I but the bullet and bought this router table. It is exactly 27" and fits perfectly between the rails of my Delta contractor table saw. The slots in the outer edge however, do not line up. Modifications are required. Modifications do however void any and all warranties. Make sure you're happy with the router table before cutting into it.

I must've accidentally banged the front with some lumber and this caused the on/off switch panel to break off the base. All kinds of crumbled plastic bits too which I thought was odd, figuring this would be ABS and more resilient to getting hit by a piece of dropped lumber. I rebuilt the on/off panel with 1/4" luan and used construction adhesive. Actually stiffened the table up nicely. I've never seen a plastic anything crumble like this base does. Both the base legs and the on/off panel got damaged and crumbled near the 4 attachment screws. Maybe China switched from the good plastic to the cheap stuff when Bosch wasn't looking?

Of course it's not as good as something around 500$ but it's pretty good for the price. The only things I don't like so far are the miter slot which isn't very smooth to use a miter gauge with, the plastic key doesn't like to latch in and can pop out super easily (although it's not been an issue) and the router mount could be a little flatter overall, it's off by the slightest amount and doesn't make any noticeable issues though. Other than that, it's great! I'm using a dewalt router that fits in the predrilled holes, the feather boards work pretty well and the 2 1/2" vacuum port makes keeping things clean really easy. The fence is really good too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This table along with the 1617EVSPK Router Combo replaced an old Craftsman fixed base router and a table that I had made. The ease of use and precision I can achieve are head and shoulders better than what I used to have. At some point I will be buying the RA1165 base to leave permanently mounted to the table, freeing up my fixed base. I would buy this again or recommend it to a friend in a heart beat. I find that I use the jointing feature a lot. It works great jointing small stuff and does a passable job with larger stuff.

It's amazing to me how much easier it is to do some routing projects with a table compared to hand-held. Putting it together was easy. It seems solid. My porter-cable router mounted to it without difficulty. Even with a shop-vac hooked up to the hose port in the back, there's a fair bit of dust that goes under and around on this thing. I was worried it would be awkward to change bits on the router, but it hasn't been a problem. Leveling the central metal plate was a little finicky, but not terrible.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from DIY Guy. Should have saved the money and put a bit more with it to buy the kreg one. Table surface is coarse unpolished aluminium forcing you to have to use unnecessary effort to control the peace you're trying to feed through it. Also the throat inserts do not fit flush to the surface. Has anyone knows when feeding a piece through a table mounted router it is critical to keep the peace moving smoothly or you will burn it or cup it. The kreg is far Superior in every way.

I bought a router lift to go with it, and it had so many mounting options that just about any lift should work, though I bought a Bosch lift so it was easy. The laminated MDF fence pieces (white in the photo) are cheap, but the fence itself is solid aluminum and works well. Can always replace the fence.
