Answer:
If all you want is the measuring feature you can get the GLM 80 separately and may not need the R60 too. If you want the function of a 2' level as well as a measuring tool, then this is the right tool.

What is the point of the frame?

I'm not sure that I understand the point of the level frame. I have already a stable of levels of various lengths that can take a fall off a roof and remain accurate. For an extra $100, what does this do for me?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good high tech accurate level Accurate, and basic functions are very easy to use. You will probably need to read the manual to learn what many of the function pictures are. Optional beeping to help you know when you reach your target level. Awesome laser feature is extremely accurate, makes measuring a large room a simple one man job in just a few seconds. You can also figure volume very quickly. Battery charges very fast and so far has lasted a long time. The 2' level housing is nice to have for everyday leveling during construction projects. Nice aluminum housing, very light weight. Haven't and don't plan on using it much outside so can't vouch for how it works in the sunlight. Do wish there was a way to use the laser while it is in the level housing. A pricey piece to get, but worth its weight in gold so far on our house remodel. March 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great set!! This is a great set. the range of 265' with 1/16th of an in at that range is the accuracy I expect from Bosch. Charging over usb is a good idea and the battery life is really great. The level is really sturdy and is great. It would be great if they made it so the laser could be used as a laser level as well. Drill a hole in the level to allow the laser to pass through it, and have a setting to be a constant laser when installed in the R60. Either way, I am really happy with this set! March 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Accurate and easy to use I've been using the GLM 80 for the last 6 months, and I've been very pleased with it. The first few times I used it, I also used a steel tape. The accuracy was spot on, so now I trust it's measurements and have not been let down. My uses are almost always indoors. It's very easy to see the dot inside. I did try it outside, and it works great, but at a distance it's hard to spot the red dot in the sun. I had a pair of red glasses that came with a laser level that helped some, but if I were to measure long distances outside I'd probably just grab my measuring tape. I'd definitely recommend the GLM 80 for it's accuracy, durability and great battery life. February 9, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great Instrument, Hampered By +/-1/32" Accuracy. I am a preservation architect and former carpenter and purchased this measuring instrument to supplement my tools set for existing conditions survey work on historic buildings. Over the course of the last year, I have found the GLM80 to be invaluable, versatile and durable. In fact, it has won me over, with one notable exception (see "CONS" below): PROS: 1. Rechargeable Battery (that lasts forever on one charge) 2. 2ft Level Interface 3. Brightness of Laser 4. Screen Size 5. Durability 6. Versatility/Features CONS: 1. Accuracy--I purchased this instrument fully aware that it's stated accuracy was +/-1/16", which is more than enough accuracy for the survey work I do in the field. However, the instrument reads dimensions to the nearest 1/32"! I don't know anyone in the construction industry (with the exception of VERY specialized trades) that would want or need dimensions to the nearest 1/32" out in the field. One would think that accuracy could be adjusted/selected as a setting within the programming on the instrument--+/-1/8" or +/-1/16"--but BOSCH Engineering tells me no. Not only is +/-1/32" accuracy not needed by the vast majority of the construction industry, it actually makes survey work difficult! 2. Size of Numerals (Read-out) on Screen, though the screen is plenty bright. (This issue appears to have been addressed by BOSCH in some of the newer models). In summary, I would recommend the instrument--and highly--if it was not for the issue of the +/-1/32" accuracy, which is greater than what was stated on the literature and on this website. BOSCH--please fix this systemic flaw! March 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Accurate & Compact I've only had the GLM 80 for a couple of weeks. I've been familiarizing myself with the operation of the unit. And though I think it will become much easier to use, the more I use it, I believe that instructions and reference card that come with the unit leave a person confused. They could have been written better. That's the only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I've taken measurements around the house, and a few outside the house-and because I was in the shade, I didn't have any issue with getting a reading. I'm curious to see how it goes when I get the chance to take some longer measurements outside. I've performed the multi measurement accuracy check of the unit (page 29 of the manual), and it was consistent within 0.003 feet, (very good in my opinion). I'm looking forward to using this tool to layout and build a new woodworking hobby shop. January 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by unbelievable accuracy I have owned this GLM-80 for several years now . This is a tool that i do not use every day , but , invaluable when i need it. For example : , I mostly work by myself . When I install crown molding It is very difficult to take measurements with a sloppy measuring tape. The GLM-80 is accurate to the 1/16th of an inch . It is reliable ,easy to use and extremely accurate. February 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty good I have had this distance meter for a couple years now and it has served me well. The battery lasts a very long time even in cold weather. The only issue I have run into is the accuracy when pointing it at a shiny or metal object. The readings will be off a little when doing so. February 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Tool! I really love this tool- it has so many more features than others that are more expensive. You can not only measure straight, you can get grade, slope, height, area and more. There is so much packed into this yet did I tell you it will also measure distance? Great buy! January 18, 2016
