Yes, it will measure a flagpole. It won't be without challenges to do so. Yes, it will measure a flagpole. It won't be without challenges to do so. The challenges are you really will need to do that measuring in a darker time of the day or you won't be able to see the laser dot at the top of the pole, and you will be more successful if you have the rangefinder fastened to something like a tripod to keep the reference of where it is stable. You can introduce some errors by trying to do it while holding it. Remember, this is figuring it out by trigonometry, and you don't need extra factors in the equation. I don't know exactly how bad the measurement will be if you try it without a stable place for the rangefinder. One last thing, don't measure to the ball (truk) at the top, measure just below it and guess the few inches to add. The ball will be very slightly closer to you and throw the measurement off a bit. Answer:
Yes. You simply measure the distance to the base of the pole, then, keeping the back of the tool in the same location tilt the tool up and shoot the laser at the top of the flag pole and the tool will triangulate and figure the height for you.

Thank you for your question. In order to measure the distance there would need to be a target for the laser beam to hit.

Yes, I just did this same thing for running conduit underground. I just drove a stake in the ground at all the points I wanted to measure so the beam had a target to acquire the measurement from.

yes I use mine for this, however it does not work well in bright outside light and you might have to measure in shorter lengths it really depends on what you can use as a target.

265 ft. Lithium-Ion Laser Measure with Inclinometer is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excelent must have tool! I love this tool. When doing a survey for a remodeling job it comes in very handy, not having to move things around and being able to do it unassisted is excellent. Plus its very easy to use and understand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Accurate and easy to use I've been using the GLM 80 for the last 6 months, and I've been very pleased with it. The first few times I used it, I also used a steel tape. The accuracy was spot on, so now I trust it's measurements and have not been let down. My uses are almost always indoors. It's very easy to see the dot inside. I did try it outside, and it works great, but at a distance it's hard to spot the red dot in the sun. I had a pair of red glasses that came with a laser level that helped some, but if I were to measure long distances outside I'd probably just grab my measuring tape. I'd definitely recommend the GLM 80 for it's accuracy, durability and great battery life.

Once I figured out how to change the display from decimals of feet to fractions of inches, the GLM 80 has become a very useful device for accurate and fast measurements for making cabinetry. I have not used it for measurements in excess of 23' yet, but it measured the distance probably more accurately than I could do alone with my steel tape. I would definitely recommend this item. But I can offer no opinion if the 265' measurement capability is superfluous, but I wanted it to integrate it into the optional level, which I also recommend. The GLM 80 may be overkill for many, including me (except for the level option).

The only inconvenient part on the measurement for English System conversion is the use of decimals instead of fraction after a whole number when measuring length to a fraction. There is no decimal to fraction conversion, so I have to manually convert decimals to fraction or use a calculator for up 4 digit decimals. This take more time than using a tape measure. Because most US Standard Engineering and Architecture plans for the construction industry uses English System for dimensional measurement, the laser measurer is limited to metric measurement for most of the applications. The area, volume, angle, and slope measurement are an excellent features for both metric and English measurement.

I bought this for its simplicity plus ability to triangulate height and measure slope. I planned to use it out in the field for outdoor inspections. It does not work for this purpose because you cannot see the red laser dot at a distance more than 12 feet. I even experimented using different colored targets and steadying with a tripod. You just can't use it if you can't see the dot in sunlight. Indoors it is fine, just don't buy it for outdoor use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought several of these for my appraisers to be used mostly for outside measuring of homes and commercial buildings. These work great even in bright day light compared to other brands we have used. I did a lot of research before buying this one, because of having to buy so many I had to make sure it would work the way we needed to use it especially outside. My appraiser like this tool also because it is easy to use.
