3.4 Amp Corded Electric 1/2 in. Sheet 4.5 in. Orbital Sander Kit with Vibration Control is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the right tool I picked this tool after viewing ratings for finishing tools. This was rated the best small finishing sander. That may be true for professionals that are sanding all the time. For the lay person that needs to get the job done and has a home with old wood that is more than a century old, I found this tool useless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Take your work up a notch I do a lot of woodworking. While I am not a professional I spend several hours a day after work in my well outfitted garage shop. I own about half a dozen sanders - mostly Random orbit and a few belt sanders for heavy stock removal. Almost all of my sanding is done on virgin wood as I am not a fan of refinishing old pieces. This sander is absolutely amazing. As a preface, I use this for fine finishing grits only (220 and up). When used properly, not a single scratch mark is present. Even with very expensive ROS sanders, I still need to do a little massaging by hand after a mineral spirits wipe-down to reveal any imperfections. I french polish a lot of pieces and a flawless sanding finish is absolutely required. This leaves the smoothest finish I have ever experienced. I would liken the finish left more toward a cabinet scraper than one left by abrasives. The sander is also a pleasure to operate. The variable speed is sensitive and actually works - unlike a lot of sanders I have used where it is just a polite suggestion and barely affects the oscillations. Loading the paper is always a hassle in pad sanders and frankly the reason I have avoided them until now. This system is exceptionally easy to use. Lock in the back and the front lever properly tensions the paper and locks it securely. It is very simple. The soft pad is great and works very well for sanding profiled edges. On a scale of 1 to 5, I would rate dust extraction a solid 3.5 with a vacuum, about a 2 without. I have use some much more expensive ROS sanders that handle dust a bit better, but this is acceptable. As advertised, the vibration is almost not existent. This makes things both comfortable and is a large part of why the sander leaves such a nice finish. I also noticed it doesn't "track" curly grain as much as others I have used. You won't believe the difference this makes over even the best random orbit sander. Attached is a picture of an end grain cutting board which is notoriously difficult to sand, and a beautiful piece of curly oak that as been French polished. This is 100% worth the investment if you are looking for a flawless finish with no rework

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior product! I needed a good sander since I was going to refinish the railings around my front and back porches. This sander is Awesome. It boasts about low vibration, so true. I couldn’t get over how low the vibration level was! This sander has a paper clamping system that automatically tensions the paper to make sure it’s held flat and tight.. It’s exceeded my expectations because it offers a micro-filter dust canister which collects all the dust…. (All you have to do to empty it is unscrew the cap.) You can also use the vacuum hose adapter with air flow control, which is the other option. The grips are really comfortable (yes, there are multiple grip locations which helps your hands from getting tired) and the entire piece is easy to handle. It has a multiple speed dial. Included in the box you will find the following: Removable front handle, tubular dust canister, vacuum hose adapter, hex wrench, sanding sheet and punch plate. I was so happy with its performance for my project, made the whole process go more quickly. I think this is a superior product and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great quality, vibration control, orbital sander.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sander with Vibration Eliminator! This is a great orbital sander! I have an older sander that shakes my hands so hard it makes my back hurt and my teeth rattle. The Bosch Orbit Sander seemed to sand just as fast as my old sander. It fits comfortably in my hand. It allows you to sand for hours without feeling the stress and fatigue from the vibrations. Putting the sandpaper on was really cool. It comes with a plastic loading template to make sure the sand paper goes on the sander properly. Just push the levers on each side to feed in the paper and it fits perfect every time. I worked on sanding the old red wood planks on my deck. My first run I did without the dust collector on the sander. A thin stream of dust shooting out of the dust collector hole was visible (see photo). I then put on the dust collector (see photo). I was impresses at how much it cut down the dust. After a few minutes of sanding I decided to empty the collector. It was filling up with sawdust. I found that impressive because I have other sanders that don’t seem to collect much sawdust in their sawdust catcher. My next round I hooked my shop vacuum to the sander (see photo). This was awesome! Even after sanding a plank for several minutes, there wasn’t any dust on the plank or in the air around me. The Bosch Orbit Sander even comes with a swivel adapter such that the hose from the vacuum never gets twisted. The Bosch Orbit Sander even had a vibration control dial on the side. There is a noticeable difference when I adjust the vibration control. This is nice for different coarseness of sandpaper as well as my ability to put weight on the sander. This will be perfect when I sand all the edges on my hardwood floors since the shop vacuum adaptor or dust collector canister, are a great way to cut down on the amount of dust that gets caught in the air. Bosch 3.4-Amp Half-Sheet Orbit Sander with Vibration Control is an amazing sander!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sander The sander is easy to use, comfortable to run and easy to reload paper. The knob that comes with it really balances the pressure and the dust clears quite well when using the vacuum attachment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bosch Top Quality In A Half Sheet Orbital Sander I read the consumer reviews of the Bosch and the Makita half sheet sanders. I chose Bosch for this sander mainly because for the last several power tool purchases, I have chosen Bosch, and the power, features and durability have been beyond expectations. Now, DeWalt, Skil, Makita and Hitachi have all outsourced manufacturing to China in order to compete price wise on a world wide market. Let's face it, China has labor regulations that completely favor the government, and if you lose your hand at the factory, they have a summary hearing, say it was your fault, and you are sent back to your remote village with only one hand and no way to support your family. So to me, it is important to avoid buying tools made in China if at all possible. Yes, you have to pay more. I don't mind. In the long run, I not only feel better, but I can rest easy knowing the quality control was done by someone who actually cares about the end user's safety and satisfaction for the product. So, although I have seen Bosch tools made in China or Southeast Asia, imagine my surprise when I discovered that this sander is made in Switzerland! Nice. Love that. Features of this sander: 1) anti vibration, 2) ergonomic handle designs, 3) their clamp designs for holding the sand paper are terrific, they hold the paper in place as if the paper were glued to the sander. 4) dust control includes fittings for use with either their tool exhaust filter or a vacuum. In this case, I own a Bosch Airsweep shop vacuum, so my hook up is seamless. They do include an exhaust/dust control adapter, although I have not used it. The sanding pad on the bottom of the sander has a large number of ports to suck dust from the work surface. 5) The sander has a robust exhaust flow though the rear chute (where the filter or the vacuum hose attaches). I was very surprised how strong the air was blowing out of there. 6) variable speed control works great, is very smooth and not jerky. 7) As with other Bosch electric tools, it has a LOT of power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bosch 3.4 Amp Half Sheet Sander -Great Product! I hated to use my old 1/2 sheet sander. After using it my hand would be tingling for hours. The Bosch vibration control suspension system is lower in vibration to your hands. I used it over an hour and had no tingling in my hands. The comfort grips really helps the hands. I was amazed on the dust collection system, it left hardly no dust on my project. It all collected in the dust canister system even the super fines dust. I always had problem with my old sander keeping the sand paper tight. The Bosch easy to use clamping system was easy to put on the 1/2 sheet sand paper and held the sand paper tight during the whole time sanding. I come with on 1/2 sheet 120 grid paper. It came with punch plate if you don't have the correct paper with the holes. All you do is attach the sandpaper on the sander and put the sander on the punch plate and you have the holes in the correct place. It was easy. I think Bosch really did some great research what the consumer was looking for need and put it in the great sander. Thanks Bosch for a great design!
