For anyone who needs to place two points in the same horizontal plane, i.e. find a level plane, with those two points being more than 10 feet apart, you're going to need something like the GOL-24.
Let me also say, I'm not a contractor; I just build things for myself and help others.
I've used it twice. The first was to lay out the foundation, footings, block wall, and floor pour on my detached 28 x 40 3-car garage. The "marble test" suggests that it did a great job, maybe a 1/4" error ... and that was probably operator error.
The second job was building a 40 x 80 pole barn; that's putting in a lot of 24' tall pilings ... in a straight line and the tops level.
I was happy with the results; I have done such builds before without a precision instrument like this, but those jobs went faster.
Like most Bosch instruments in this class, the instructions could use some help; and for my work, I had to build my own 'story stick'.
Not sure how well this unit will survive in the rough world of construction, where the case is likely to get thrown in the back of the truck with a pile of rubble.

This self leveling optical level is perfect for checking elevations, or measuring angles, on any construction site. It is all metal construction and feels substantial. A built in dampening system settles the level if used on job sites were vibration is normally a problem.
The plumb bob and small bubble level allows the instrument to be quickly set up and centered over a specific point on the ground. The 26x magnification allows a good range, and the manufacturer states it is accurate up to 330 feet. I was able to measure out closer to 400 feet for my fencing project. The cross hairs have good clear definition, and the optics are sharp and clear.
The level is supplied with a tough carry case, and a foam insert to project the level whilst being transported.
This is not a laser ranging tool, it is a manual tool that you use with a grade rod, and requires elementary math to measure the height.
When paired with the Bosch BT160 tripod (Home Depot SKU 1000016679 ) and Bosch GR16 grade rod ( Home Depot SKU 1000016686 ), it makes the perfect job site tool, or in my case ranch fence layout tool, for fast and accurate measurements.

We got this optical level to produce a elevation plot for a garage planning application. Our property is on a slope so the elevation plot was required for drainage plan approval.
The Bosch optical level is a high quality piece of precision equipment. It comes in a sturdy hard plastic carry/storage case and is very easy to assemble, adjust and read.
Since our use was more 'consumer' level and not professional, I used the tripod from our laser level instead of buying a specialized surveyor's tripod. The Bosch unit comes with a standard tripod screw thread fitting so it was compatible with our existing tripod. The level is very easy to set up and has a circular bubble level and a handy 45 degree mirror viewer that allows the bubble to centered even if the optical level is above eye height.
What impressed me most about the unit was that I could survey WITHOUT my reading glasses on - I have to wear 1.5 glasses for near work/reading and was pleasantly surprised that I could adjust the focus of the viewfinder so that I could read with crystal clarity with the naked eye. I had no trouble taking measurements at 250' range with the optics.
Once I had the unit set up, I was able to rotate the optical assembly through 360 degrees without moving the tripod, which was very helpful in plotting the four corners of the garage from the lowest and highest points of elevation.
All in all, a very solid product with the quality that you'd expect from Bosch and is definitely suited to professional as well as consumer use.

First, be sure to read the instructions that will guide you through the setups. This is a quality leveling tool from Bosch tools. It comes in a sturdy protective case which holds the tool, plumb bob and allen wrench. It has a long range of 300 feet and very clear optics. It also has a mirror sight for line leveling while viewing your target. It weighs in at 3.3 lbs and has the feel of a solid, precision instrument. When you look through the eyepiece you get a very clear image and the focus knob is conveniently located to focus clearly on your target. It has a circular bubble level and a handy vial sighting prism so you can always see your target and level in your line of sight. Make no mistake this is no toy and it will give you the precise measurements you need for your projects. It also has a "peep" sight for quickly locating targets. A standard tripod mount to hold this sturdy instrument is provided. The instructions are very helpful as well as the Bosch website. This is a professional instrument for professional results, large and small projects.

I'm not sure how to review this product as it turns out that I cannot use it. I mistakenly thought it was a fancy level that is used to hang items on walls, etc. Once I received it, my husband explained to me that it is a tool that is used by surveyors, etc. to level ground. I have no use for this as I do not have plans to level ground in the near future. Should I send this back to you?

I'm using this level to help me build some swails on my property. I like this system because it uses standard connections. I was able to use a tripod that I already owned to mount it to. The viewfinder is my only complaint in that it is somewhat difficult to focus in on.
The finite adjustments are simple to use and the level bubbles are easy to see.
