One reviewer noted the nuisance of having to reconnect with the smart phone every time the measurer powers down. I'm wondering if the smart phone was running a general utility called TASKER, whether it would be possible for the smartphone to detect the power up of bluetooth on the laser measurer and automatically go through all the setup. Anyone done that?

Answer:
No...the device requires you to pair after each shutdown...it's not the phone that causes the issue so a utility would not help. I have discussed the issue with R&D at Bosch and they said they will look into it.

Thank you for your question. This is how Blue Tooth works, once you shut off the GLM100C it will disconnect from your phone and when you turn it back on it will reconnect to Blue Tooth. If you have further questions please feel free to contact our Laser and Measuring Tool Technicians at 1-877-267-2499.

As an estimator, I need to get the width and length of multiple rooms. It would be very nice if it summed up all rooms automatically and gave a total square footage.

Answer:
Thanks for your question. The GLM100C will not measure distance to a water surface. It will only measure to a hard surface. We do not make a laser measurer that will measure water/liquids distance.

Called Bosch and told whole company is on vacation until 01/08 2016 . Seems very long for holiday break . so no help there either January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple, or fully featured, your choice. In its simplest form, without pairing to your phone, you can quickly and accurately measure distances and angles up to 330ft away. The real power of this unit comes to life when you pair it with your iOS or Android device using the free application. Not only can you trigger the unit from your mobile device, but it also records the reading to the device itself. Take a picture of the area (or select an existing image, like a site plan for example) you are measuring with your smart device and quickly 'sketch' the measurements. No more pencil and paper sketches to have to transpose. You can easily share these via email. When connected to your PC you can pull in all the historical readings. The smart phone app can not pull older data, it only records data sent to it when paired. There is a positioning pin at the base that folds out to 90 degrees when measuring onwards from outer corners, or 180 degrees when measuring from a corner. The tool also accommodates a 1/4" thread mount for a tripod base. Measuring a large metal building with tables, benches, and tools throughout would normally take a while to plot out with a tape or measuring wheel. I was able to measure the whole building in less than a minute. Using the sketch mode, not only did I measure the building, but I marked where I wanted the extra window, and emailed it to my contractor. What would have taken an hour to do before, was done in 2 minutes. Just amazing! January 20, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great tool for Contractors and Estimators I've got to say, connecting a laser measuring device directly to an Android or IPhone is a very useful innovation. You don't have to transfer measurements from your laser to your phone, you use your phone like a remote control for the GLM 100C. You just hit a button on your phone, and the laser clicks, and the measurement is already there on your phone, and in the context of your previous measurements in a series... And you can pair those dimensions to pictures you take on your camera. No more trying to figure our which room those measurements go with. The phone app can save numerous measurements, and you can create project folders. You can copy the results to your computer with the included USB cable (and charge the GLM 100C's rechargable batteries too.) Using the phone as a remote control to take measurements has the added benefit of letting you place the device and not accidentally moving it when you hit the trigger button. Minor, but nice upside when accuracy matters. The GLM 100C also has a built in gyroscope, so you can measure angles. That means you can measure large vertical walls to any end point (like second floor height) just by measuring the angle and length to the top and bottom and calculating the third side of the triangle. Saves you a few ladder trips. Be patient setting up the Bluetooth pairing with your phone. I put another video on YouTube just for that. The instructions on pairing were a little weak. It will eventually pair though, and once it does it's easy after that. January 7, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by There's a lot to say about this little gem. It comes with a lanyard, belt holster, 24" Micro-B USB cable for PC connection and charger. It's smaller than I expected, but study and easy to handle. I found the lanyard attachment fussy and it got in the way, so I ended up not using it. The back-lit display is easy to read except at extreme angles when it washes out. There are 4 measurement locations that can be selected - front, back, tripod mount, and from a 1.5" fold-out pin on the back that allows measurements in corners or other hard-to-reach places. There are a number of units settings that can be changed at any time, but it requires going into the GLM basic settings to change it - it's not a simple button press. I checked the calibration first. Taking 10 measurements at a distance of 10', the maximum variation was 1/32" (0.8mm), handily exceeding the 1.5mm accuracy rating. The angle calibration was off by 0.8 degrees, so I followed the calibration instructions to recalibrate. It was difficult for me to understand the calibration diagrams on the screen, but it's a simple 4-step process. (1) Lay it on its back, (2) swap ends, (3) lay it on its side, and (4) swap ends. The end result was a match within 0.2 degrees, again exceeding the 0.3 degree accuracy rating. When measuring angles and used on its back, angles can be measured from 0 to 60 degrees. When used on its side, all angles can be measured. On its side, it beeps to let you know when you're within 0.5 degrees of level, beeping faster when you reach 0 degrees. The screen automatically rotates from vertical to horizontal when the GLM is tilted sideways, but unlike a smart device where the screen will rotate at a 45 degree tilt, the GLM doesn't rotate until it's within 5 degrees of being horizontal. I found it much easier to just lay it down on its side to get it to rotate rather than hand-holding it sideways. It has a bunch of functions that you can read about in the product literature. The unique feature of the GLM is integration with your PC, iThing, and AndroidThing. All the associated software and applications are free. The GLM can retain up to 50 measurements. These measurements can be downloaded to a PC using the GLM Transfer Software. You connect by USB with the PC, open the GLM Transfer Software, and press "Get Data". It connects to the GLM and imports and displays all the measurements. From there you can transfer them to an Excel spreadsheet, the clipboard to be pasted into Word or Notepad, or a text file. You can also erase the measurements on the GLM. I tested the program on a Windows 7 PC and it worked flawlessly. The only hiccup is that it says "not connected" until you press the "get data" button, leading me to initially think there was something wrong with the USB connection. The Transfer Software displays and exports data in the units set in the GLM The IOS and Android apps do not import stored measurements from the GLM. Once connected by Bluetooth, any subsequent measurements you take with the GLM are recorded by your smart device. The smart device can also be used as a remote control to operate and change settings on the GLM. There are separate settings for the GLM and the app, so you can have one units setting on the GLM and a different one on the app. The most amazing feature is the "sketch" option in the smart device app. It lets you take a picture of the thing you're measuring, draw in measurement lines or angles with your finger (including a neat "zoom" on the line ends to allow precise placement), select an item, and then the next measurement you make with the GLM is attached to that item. I tested the app on my iPod Touch 5th generation (IOS 7) and my Android 4.0 tablet and it worked well on both devices. I used the GLM to take measurements for a heat loss calculation in my house, including window and door area, wall lengths, and room volume. While you can do addition and subtraction in the GLM, I chose to import the measurements for each room into an Excel Spreadsheet and do the final calculations there. There are a couple of things to be aware of: 1) The GLM doesn't pair with IOS devices, you get a "pairing is not supported" message. So don't try to pair it, just open the "GLM Measurement" app and press the "connect" button. 2) Android is the opposite - pair Bluetooth with Android, then open the "GLM Measurement" app. January 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WOW! Just received the Bosch laser and although don't have a project going on right now, I measured a couple of rooms and it's super easy and dead on accurate. Still playing around with the Bluetooth but it seems pretty user friendly. As soon as the snow melts I am looking forward to trying it outside. A little pricy, but seems like a great piece of equipment! January 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great No need to move furniture out of the way to measure a room. Just one click of a button and you have the accurate measurement everytime. This works great and is much more compact then my old one. Great deal January 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bosch Quality This unit is loaded with many features and is very accurate. Tool will measure distance, area, volume, and angles. It can communicate through Bluetooth technology or USB January 6, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Small & handy So far, the projects I've used the Bosch Bluetooth Enabled 330 ft. Lithium-Ion Laser Distance and Angle Measure for have been relatively small (in the 30-ft range, so nowhere near the 330 feet it can apparently handle), but it has given me accurate results (measuring from the back of the unit) as compared with the same measurements taken with a traditional tape measure. Small and lightweight with a rechargeable battery and carrying case, the laser measure is easy to take with you without taking up a whole lot of space. Some of the many additional features it offers that I have not had reason to try yet include angle measurements and using the iPhone app and Bluetooth connectivity to document measurements on the go. In all honesty, while I'm sure that the smartphone app connection would be incredibly handy for contractors, inspectors, and DIYers who need to take many measurements while flying solo, it seems somewhat overkill for just taking basic measurements of a room. Given the wide variety of measurements and tasks the laser measure can handle, I highly recommend this product for professionals who need accurate measurements with minimal hassle; however, given the price and the intensity of the instruction manual needed to learn this device, I would advise everyone else to stick with traditional tape measures or cheaper laser measures.
