Holes Too Large?

This question is from 1/2 in. x 6 in. SDS-Plus Bulldog Rotary Hammer Drill Bit

I bought this to drill some 1/2" holes in brick using a Bosch Bulldog rotary hammer. The holes are too large for a lead anchor that requires a 1/2" hole. The anchor just falls into the hole with no resistance and spins. I tried drilling a smaller pilot hole first but the result was the same. I ended up using a 7/16" drill and hammered the anchors in though this is really not the correct way to do this. I was drilling carefully to avoid wallowing out the hole. I hope a Bosch rep sees this post and can advise me on why this drill cuts the hole too large. If this is by design then I feel I wasted my money.

Answer:
High quality concrete is very hard and the hole is the same size as the bit. Lower strength concrete breaks apart more easily and the hole in the concrete is enlarged. If the hole is too large an anchor using epoxy grout may be required.

Answer:
We are sorry to hear about the issue you experienced using SDS bit. If the type of anchor you used said to use a 1/2" bit then it should have worked. Please contact our Bosch Customer Service Representatives at 1-877-267-2499 so we can further discuss and troubleshoot the issue you had with the bit and possible options for resolution.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty good It's good against concrete but marble it chops and cracks and flys away March 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleased with this purchase Very pleased with this purchase that works with my sds-type rotary hammer drill. It made easy and quick work out of drilling for Tapcon screws. So much sturdier, so much faster, than trying to use the bits supplied with screws in a standard cordless drill. December 29, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mr the bits work good but the carbide tip breaks off to easy.this would be a great bit if the whole thing was carbide!!! November 10, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Adequate The bit came with a rubberized coating over the tip but even through the coating I could see the dull edge. I used it in my hammer drill for about 50 holes in concrete. As you would expect it was slow but it held up fine and didn't get any worse. I have powerful drill and it would make a hole even if the bit was ground to a stub so I wasn't too worried about it. Even a sharper drill would have been dull after 10-15 holes anyway.
