I bought this detector to find PVC pipes in the wall (brick wall) but it detect all holes of the bricks. If I change to the brick mode, it doesn't detect anything (actually I've tried all modes but it either doesn't detect anything or detect all the holes).
I tried to find some power line but the detector didn't recognized it even though with a television turned on on this power line. It just shows that there is something non-metallic behind the wall.
I was really scared when I was scanning the copper pipe of my shower and at certain point of the path it didn't recognized the pipe. It's almost impossible take a decision of were you can drill the wall using this tool because it show so many things, but unfortunatelly it sometimes doesn't show what it should show.
I'm very upset about this product because what they show in the advertisements is really different.

In a quest for a better stud finder I went here. I found after working with it that the unit was as reliable as many which I have a drawer full all costing under $50.00. We experimented on several different areas and the results were indicating objects then when returning to the same area they would disappear. This was so in all modes of detection. Although the electricity locator worked best still gave some confusing readings on known sources. The display read out is obscure as well. I did end up keeping the Red companies $250 unit because we are a architectural mill work shop and it serve well as a metal detector to locate metal prior to milling. We liked its display and it was more consistent. Read my review there. Home depot dropped the price in a price match but not all the way, still close enough to buy it. I don't try to abuse the return policies of but are grateful they are there in instances like this. I have a lot of Bosch tools and as a rule they are awesome. This one just didn't hit our mark.
