Q:Can this also be used on wood?

Answer This Question

A:  Yes. That what I use it for. Smooth cuts, do not cut aggressively.

by|Jun 4, 2021

A:  Absolutely. It makes a fantastically smooth cut on wood.

    by|Nov 23, 2020

A:  Yep. Just like a n 18 tip hacksaw, though a bit faster, of course,

    by|Nov 21, 2020

A:  It can be used on wood. It won’t cut as quickly, and may clog.

    by|Nov 20, 2020

A:  Thank you for the inquiry. Premium Bandsaw blades should be able to cut 16 gauge sheet metal. Please make sure the blade is broken in before sawing. We recommend to start at a slow speed / feed rate and see how your saw keeps up with material then proceed cutting depending on care. Its use while sawing will determine the life of the blade. by|May 8, 2020

A:  Mine says 18 tpi, and it looks like 18 tpi. I did not count, but I know what 1/16" looks like, and these teeth are smaller. I hope that this helps. Stay safe!

A:  My package says 18tpi on the front. Perhaps both are available. You may have to specify which you want. I got this for cutting thinner material. I think the rule of thumb is to have at least 3 teeth contacting the material being cut.

Not really for carbon steel IMO.
When it states mild steel, it really means steel you can't use for anything structural or maybe aluminum. I couldn't even start a cut on square tubing before all the teeth were gone.

                        Response from BoschToolsSep 3, 2021
We apologize about the issue with the blade being dull. We have some information to share with you about the blades ""braking in"" that I think would be helpful to your new band saw blades:
All band saw blades, regardless of brand, need to be ""broken in"". When new, the teeth are simply ""too sharp"". Cutting at full rate will cause fracturing of the feather edges, which will lead to premature blade failure. Breaking in a band saw blade wears off this ultra sharp edge and allows the blade to retain its cutting edge longer. Each brand has their own preferred method of blade break in, however they all share the same principles: 1) Maintain recommended band saw speed, 2) Reduce Feed pressure to 1/2 normal rate, 3) Run at these settings for the first 50 square inches of material cut (150 square inches on mild and low carbon steel). Note: If you are unsure what the normal feed pressure is, start light. Increase feed pressure until good curly chips start to form. After cutting the recommended area, slowly increase the feed pressure until you reach your desire cutting rate. Special consideration must be given while breaking in a band saw blade on nickel-based alloys (stainless steel, inconel, hastelloy, D2 tool steel, etc.). These alloys tend to harden very quickly; therefore, sufficient feed pressure must be applied during the break in period to remove some material. As a general rule, alloys sawed at lower speeds need more pressure during break in.

We will forward your comments to our Product Managers for review. You may contact us at 1-877-267-2499 for further assistance regarding this matter or you may return the item back to the store within 30 days from the purchased date. Thank you for your time.
