What's the \difference between a masonry bit and a hammerdrill bit?

Asked by: Anonymous
Nothing. They are both designed for concrete drilling. If used with wood you will dull the bit quickly, so use the masonry bit for concrete type application only.

7 Amp Corded 1/2 in. Variable Speed Hammer Drill Kit with Hard Case is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Knock Out Punch I bought this hammer drill to drill anchor bolt holes in concrete. I was instantly impressed with the perrmance, but my co-workers are impressed every time I use it. One of my favorite comments came from one theHe said "I didn't know it could be that easy." I use Bosch concrete bits and I have drilled hundreds of anchor bolt holes at depths of 4" up to 12" and each hole is drilled in a matter of seconds. This has proven time and again to be one my wiser tool investments.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dead in 2 years Hammering action is just enough for it to work in your residential application. Used 2 years, approximately once every 3 month. So total may be around 30 concrete holes, and 30 wood holes, and mixing 10 bags of thinset. Pretty terrible durability if I say so myself. FYI - The trigger broken, and in Canada you must pay US plus international shipping. Easy fix, just almost the price of the drill when on sale

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I only used it a couple of times, and it... I only used it a couple of times, and it was drilling through wood, but so far so good. Combined with the Bosch spade bits with the threaded tips it was a breeze to drill through joists.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor manufacturing quality control Gear broke - some teeth just snapped under low load (rotted tree stump). This was just a few months after the 1 year warranty expired. Never buying Bosch again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappionted Hammer drilled eight holes in concrete filled cement block. I was surprised at the lack of power after having read the spec. sheet. Holes took longer to drill than I would have expected (fyi, the holes were only 3/16" in diameter). The hammer action would also disengage periodically for no apparent reason. I changed the bits so I could then drive 1/4" tapcon screws. I switched the mode to drill. It worked for approximately 2 seconds then abruptly switched itself back to hammer mode. It stayed in hammer mode regardless of mode switch position. I took it back the next day. I have read the reviews for the Bosch 1 " hammer drill and have decided to go ahead and spring for the $199 Bosch.
