What's the \difference between a masonry bit and a hammerdrill bit?

Asked by: Anonymous
Nothing. They are both designed for concrete drilling. If used with wood you will dull the bit quickly, so use the masonry bit for concrete type application only.

Customer Reviews

7 Amp Corded Electric 1/2 in. Variable Speed Hammer Drill Kit with Hard Case is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Tool! The drill is balanced and comfortable to use. I like the longer cord making it more convenient than hunting down an extension cord. The drill has plenty of power and I like the hammer drill, both functions operate perfectly. The drill has plenty of power (using a 6" hole saw I needed the side handle due to the strong torque). The drill came with a depth gauge, chuck wrench, rotatable side handle and a nice case. The only potential problem is the side handle is difficult to tighten, having a rather small wing nut making it difficult to snug up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite what i was hoping for I bought this tool to drill some weep holes in a concrete deck. It performed well enough for its design. I had to rent a roto hammer to complete the job. Am keeping it for normal drilling into concrete walls for fasteners and such.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like it big time! Bought it to help build a small wooden deck over a concrete base. Drill was used to anchor screws and bolts to substrate. Found it to be very reliable and powerful. Cut overall job time considerably.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine product Sturdy, yet light, this drill does a great job. A switch on top allows one to use it as a regular drill or as a hammer drill. Good buy for the money. Nice case, as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappionted Hammer drilled eight holes in concrete filled cement block. I was surprised at the lack of power after having read the spec. sheet. Holes took longer to drill than I would have expected (fyi, the holes were only 3/16" in diameter). The hammer action would also disengage periodically for no apparent reason. I changed the bits so I could then drive 1/4" tapcon screws. I switched the mode to drill. It worked for approximately 2 seconds then abruptly switched itself back to hammer mode. It stayed in hammer mode regardless of mode switch position. I took it back the next day. I have read the reviews for the Bosch 1 " hammer drill and have decided to go ahead and spring for the $199 Bosch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from for the price this tool is an excellent choice. I'm very happy with the Bosch brand of tools & this 1/2" hammer drill is no exception. I bought the cheaper model because it gets used so seldom as I'm now 73 yrs old & retired. My last project was remodeling our basement & this hammerdrill has more than enought power to do the job, I would rate it at a 10 !! Thank you
