Answer:
Use a fully charged battery in your drill or 110 v. drill. Sounds like lack of power driving the bit.

Thank you for your question. We would recommend an auger bit like the the Daredevil #NKST24.

Answer:
A 1/4" pilot hole would help. Do not use this bit on boards less than 2" thick. Drill until the bit just breaks through the board, turn the board over and continue to drill from the opposite side.
This bit will have a very rough finish to the wood. The board should be secured (i.e., clamped, vised or nailed in place) when using this bit as the bit has a large bite into the wood. Have a strong hold on

Answer:
Thank you for your question. Our spade bits have a pilot point so there is not a need to drill a pilot hole. To start the bit be sure to depress the drill trigger switch slightly so that the bit slowly engages into the wood.

Daredevil 1-1/4 in. x 6 in. Spade Bit is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It drills a hole This bit works very well, as long and you don't have to maneuver the bit or try to start slow. I needed to make the opening of the hole I was drilling oblong but the threaded tip grabbed into the wood and wouldn't allow me to maneuver the bit around to customize the hole opening. It is great for what it was designed to do, but in my particular usage I would have preferred one without the threaded tip. I got this because Home Depot didn't have an alternative in store.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cuts well, but almost impossible to back out and sharpen. I bought this to drill a hole for a birdhouse entrance. The tip is threaded, so to back out, one has to reverse the direction of the drill. The drill I tried using it in was a B&D from the 60s or 70s, and it didn't have enough torque, so to back it out, I had to unchuck the bit while it was buried in the wood, then manually twist it out backwards, before chucking it in a more powerful drill. The auger point is totally unnecessary, it prevent the user from controlling the feed speed to match the torque of his drill. I bought this one mostly based on Bosch's reputation for carbide-tipped router bits, but I wouldn't buy it again, I'd buy a cheap one. In addition to the auger issue, the wings have a complex shape, so this bit will be almost impossible to sharpen. What I'd like to see is for Bosch to go back to the simple, time-tested design, rather that complicate it needlessly, like Germans always seem to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from above and beyond. very good product I had never seen a spade bit made like this one. curved arms instead of straight . the tip had what seemed to be a threaded end which made the spade bit almost do all the work. great tool looking forward to much more use. Gratefully

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick work This is the best spade bit I have ever used. Easily drills into hard wood

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average Not sure if it was my drill or the drill bit , but it had a hard time going through a regular 2x4. Had to drill 12 holes, by the time I got to the 4th one the bit seemed dull. Served the purpose for the price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MAJOR IMPROVEMENT OVER FLAT PADDLE BIT Works nearly as well as a forstner bit! Drilled out 16 holes 1 1/4" dia by 1 1/4' deep in dried southern PT with 1 battery on a little Milwaukee M12 impact!
