The bit powers through wood at an astonishing rate but it requires a drill that is capable of providing a good amount of torque and the drill must be held solidly. Most lightweight cordless drills are no good for a bit of this style. They just stall out.

Since I was making repeated cuts (about 70) I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that it stayed sharp and the last cut was just as clean and quick as the first.

The threaded tip screws into the wood, seizes up, and then the bit won't turn. Useless product, as far as I'm concerned.

I had two pieces of wood clamped together and was holding it down on a drill press like I normally would do holding down the wood with my hands. I have had other spade bits without the screw end and this would be no trouble but the screw end dug into the wood quickly and tore the board away trying to cut too much out of the wood at once on it's own, there is no "soft touch" capability with this screw end design. I should have paid more attention to the screw end as this is a poor hazardous design. I was trying to be cheaper by not buying a hole saw bit but was stupid in putting safety over price. I ended up drilling a hole in the wood the size of the screw part and the blade went through OK, but not smooth as other spade bits that I own. I am not sure how people would like this design over other spade bits that just have the beveled cutting edge to start the hole.

I used my first one in a Milwaukee right angle drill. It worked fine in straight holes, but when I drilled at an angle the shank twisted up like a barber pole. It could have been that one individual drill was not heat treated properly. All the others have worked great

The threads pull the bit in quickly and it takes a big bite. I was using an older 3/8" drill putting holes in treated 4x4's and burned up the motor. I was able to finish the job with a newer 3/8" drill, but would recommend a 1/2".

I purchased this to drill a hole for a new exterior faucet. I used this with a Bosch locking extension to drill a 5" hole. It cut very well and the bore hole was very clean.
