Amazing the difference between regular flat bits and these in speed. Absolutely worth the extra cost.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by aesch Good bits. Need a lot of torque.
Bought these bits and the 6" extension to drill a wiring hole through some joists with an odd spacing. I have a 'Hole Hawg' with the Milwaukee self feeding bit and the 12" extension, but there was no 6" extension available. These bits did the job better than expected - bit into the wood and cut through cleanly. The spade design leaves a lot of space for chip clearance.
Only caveat is that these bits need a drill with a lot of torque. My 3/8" corded drill wouldn't turn them - had to use my low speed 'Hole Hawg'.

I have been boring holes through 2x8s and this works great. It would be nice if the shaft were longer so you could get a deeper hole

Best spade bits i've used yet (i bought 3 sizes at the same time, only had time to use one but i'm sure the others are the same, just different diameters). Don't forget to drill the pilot hole, and have the drill on the slower speed (fast is too fast for these bits).

This bit was great. It did all the work. I used a low power drill and this bit just tore right through the wood and made easy work. I can't wait to try it with a regular drill.

With these bits, drilling wood studs is like drilling cheese.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by bewolf5 Only for high torque/volt drivers
I'm using an older B&D Firestorm driver 14.4V, which can run through batteries, but has no problem handling standard 3/4" spade wood bits. But, these bits have the screw-in tip which pulls the blade into the wood and does not allow the user to back-off or use less pressure. So, even with a fresh battery, my normally pretty torquey and reliable driver didn't have the power to use these bits. Close, but I had to drill a pilot hole first to avoid the screw tip grab. Plan on using a higher voltage, more powerful driver.

The screw tip pulls the bit so the job gets done with less effort . The bit lasted longer then I thought it would , making it a good deal .
