The quick disconnect seems at first to be a slick design until you start to actually use it. If wood shavings fall behind the disconnect mechanism, which of course they will, it is hard to disengage the drill bit. This is inconvenient when the bit is extremely hot from just drilling through something. Also, if you do not drill your hole extra large, the bit can become disengaged deep in the hole your drilling, and thus have a stuck drill bit. You need to have at least a 5/8 to really a 3/4 inch hole in order to help prevent this. So, this extension is only useful if you need really wide holes besides deep ones.
What is the deal breaker for me and what makes me wish I could return it is the unreliability of the "quick" disconnect system. It can be too quick or not quick enough.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GTA426 12" bit extension...
Drilling down from attic through a wall to install new electrical wire for new switch with 3/4 " spade bit. I actually used 2 of these bits (along with my 18" spade bit, for a total of 36") in order to get through the fire blocks. Worked flawlessly!

I am a sheet metal worker who needs and uses this type of tool in an industrial setting. I found this extension is prone to jam in the open position, which means the quick connect bits I use will not lock into place. I replaced the original and had the same problem with the replacement. Two other people on my crew had the same problem with theirs.

I love the quick connect connection method as opposed to the allen screw types I have used in the past. I did however almost lose a drill bit on my first use. Since the quick connect releases by pushing back on the end when I pushed my bit into the hole the shavings were able to apply enough back pressure to release the connection. Once I pulled back on the bit the extension came loose. I was not immediately able to reattach the extension. After sucking out the shavings with a shop vac I was able to connect the extension back to the bit and retrieve it. I recommend cleaning your hole out regularly if you are going to use this in a deep hole application.

I purchased the Bosch Daredevil Spade Bit Extension in both the 6" and 12" versions when I bought the Bosch Model DSB5010 Spade bit set. Well, what can I say? They're Bosch Quality!
The other use I found was using them as drill driver extensions. The universal 1/4 drive system keeps them handy for so many other things. I Love the quick connect collet,,,, fast is good!
TIP: The Extension Collet is somewhat smaller than 5/8". The Collet releases by pulling it away from the bit toward the driver. When using them for smaller Spade Bits wrap a bit of electrical tape behind the collet to keep from releasing on the plunge in deep wood drilling. With that said, I have been using these instead of auger bits! You should be all set with the larger drill bits.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Grogan14 Holds up to hard use
The 1/4" hex extensions of a different brand that I had been using just wouldn't hold up to the hard usage I put on them, drilling framing for wiring. Since changing to these Bosch ones, have not had any problems with the release binding up at all. Will be buying these exclusively from now on.

Needed to drill some wiring holes different sizes but my 1/4" socket end bits weren't long enough, this adapter solved that problem quickly. Should have bought this long ago!
