That pun was intentional. I was running wires from my cellar into the cellar part of an addition to the house. My standard speed bit wouldn't reach through all the lumber that was in my way. If you need to make a hole for a ½" water pipe or to run wires, this will get to those places where your standard speed bits fall short. Hex cut where the bit meets the chuck, this won't slip. The business end has a threaded point and it pulls the bit into the work. It works for me!

This bit is part of an "extendable" set to which it can be quickly coupled to extensions of various lengths. This means 1 bit and several extensions of various lengths covers most situations especially when running cables. The quick connect coupler of the the extensions also allows you to progressively extend the bit as you go deeper. The shank at the end is hexagonal so the drill chuck has a good grip and will not spin when the bit eventually jams (as all spade bits do). This is a spade bit so it inherits all the nuances of a spade bit - frequent jamming, tear out, and material is not readily cleared from the hole. The bit is VERY aggressive and will bite into the material you are drilling - so hold the drill tightly or loose your wrist. The only problem I have with them is that they seem to have tiny legs and wander off.

I had not used this product prior for cutting holes in lumber, always used a long electrician's drill, but found this much easier and faster to use, especially when cutting through multiple studs. The long narrow shaft allows you to angle your cut to closer to a 90 degree cut than is possible when you're cutting a path through a series of studs, a very common project.

I bought this bit for drilling up through two-by-four plates to pull new circuits in an aging house. I was very happy with how well it held up to drilling and stayed sharp (I did not hit any nails or anything bad) through my project. Good value, and extends up from the basement to allow me to get the job done right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets the job done As a cable installer i've tried expensive 50.00 auger bits and have been less then impressed. I like how have controll over how fast i go threw my hole with my impact gun so if im drilling a tight area simple tethering of the gun and it goes threw nice and clean.

I've found this bit works great for my application...drilling holes for 1/2 lag bolts for deck posts. Although it's designed to use with an impact screw gun....I found that using a drill gives it the power it really needs to get through.
