These bits might be good for someone else but I did not like the fact that it bored itself into the wood. It produced holes with blowouts on both sides of the wood. It also went so fast that it caused some pieces to splinter.

To get a better set of bits you would be shopping in the $25-$50 range. Great general purpose hole boring bits. If you are looking to do anything with Finnish in the title you better pony up for the forstner bits.

The keyhole bits worked really well when drilling holes. Great design and the fact that sawdust was able to be removed by the action of the bit was a great timesaver. I was drilling in an antique door and didn't need to tip the door over every time I needed to remove the sawdust!

I can't fault these drill bits for the quality of their construction --- they're excellent in that regard. What I found unacceptable was the design with the auger-like tip that prevented me form controlling the speed of penetration through the wood. Instead of allowing me to control penetration by increasing or decreasing pressure on the bit, the auger tip pulled the bit through the wood uncontrollably. Using my drill on the high speed setting, the drill jammed several times on each hole, nearly twisting out of my hand and hurting my wrist. The finished exit hole in the wood seemed especially jagged, which is what one would expect when a drill bit is spun too slow, or pushed through the material too fast.
I didn't want to take the set back to Home Depot, because they could not be put back on the shelf to be re-sold, and they were cheap anyway. On my next project, I can try using the bits at a lower rotational speed, and hope for better results. Until then, I would not recommend these spade bits, and instead I'd advise that users stick with the old-fashioned flat blade design.

These drill bits are great, the screw tip grabs into the wood right away without wandering and pulles the rest of the bit cleanly through the wood. Leaves clean holes which is great when pulling electric wires through everything from single to triple studs in a wall, rafters or floor joists.

Bosch does it again. Sturdy, long necked, great blades, very efficient graduated starter head screw. All in all a very good set. The larger ones work great for sinking washers and heads of screws. The smaller ones go right through boards of all types clean and fast. I used some old practice wood, a piece of treated fir, a piece of cedar and a piece of 2x2 fir and the smaller ones cut through all of them - the treated lumber being the most difficult as it was old and treated, difficult to work with as it is, but still put a nice round hole through it. See photos, but remember this is very old wood and it put these to a test. A good piece of nice new wood comes out much better!

I was having trouble drilling pilot holes and holes for LED lights on my Tigerwood deck project. Dave in the tool department took the time to help me figure out what the best bit for the job would be. I found that if you let the bit do all the work with these bits and apply minimal pressure, it made perfect holes with no chipping or splitting. Tigerwood hits the Janka scale at 2160. These bits handle this wood with no problem as long as you are patient.
