These spade bits are threaded and it is very difficult to control. When I want to make a nice clean hole, I
usually bore holes from both sides to make a clean tear free hole. The threaded portion of the spade bit
makes it more difficult to use than regular wood boring bits.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Rich No control over the bit
The threaded end makes this bit suck it's way through whatever you're drilling into. Some see it as a plus but if I can't control my drill there is a problem. Only one way to remove the bit if you're not going all the way through, and that's to reverse your gun otherwise the threaded tip holds just like a screw. I actually found these still in the package at a job site and now they're in the trash. I'm sticking with a regular spade bit with no fancy addons.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sarhodes Aggressive, quick drilling
These bits are very aggressive. Great for drilling through 2x4s. They do not require any force, they pull through the wood; This could be a down side depending on application.

I was having trouble drilling pilot holes and holes for LED lights on my Tigerwood deck project. Dave in the tool department took the time to help me figure out what the best bit for the job would be. I found that if you let the bit do all the work with these bits and apply minimal pressure, it made perfect holes with no chipping or splitting. Tigerwood hits the Janka scale at 2160. These bits handle this wood with no problem as long as you are patient.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cbslc definitely faster than my grandpa's
Been using my grandfather's bits circa 1960. One finally bent, so I picked these up. Holes drill in 1/2 the time. Hex at the bottom so they are also less likely "spin" in the chuck. Good price for the set.
