These spade bits have screw tips that help get the hole started really quick as they pull the bit into the wood. There is an issue with this though - I was drilling through wet pressure treated lumber and needed to pull back to clear out the drilling debris but with the screw tips its really hard to pull them back! You pretty much have to reverse the drill to back them out. This is not how I am use to using spade bits - typically a back and forth motion to make sure the hole is cleared out as you go.
Another issue I have is the packaging. Its hard plastic that you cut open, and now you have a bundle of loose spade bits that you need a home for. In the past, all the other spade bits I purchased came with a sleeve to keep them in. These dont, so now I need a way to keep them all together.
Lastly it seems like they should be a half inch longer based on what I was trying to drill through.

Only needed a 1/2" bit, but the set was only slightly more than 2 bits. No brainer. Bit worked as expected.

Few tools work as well as advertised, these work better. Use an impact driver for much better performance than a drill. These eat through wood. I use them for electrical work including drilling through gluelam beams.

These spade bits are threaded and it is very difficult to control. When I want to make a nice clean hole, I
usually bore holes from both sides to make a clean tear free hole. The threaded portion of the spade bit
makes it more difficult to use than regular wood boring bits.

I was having trouble drilling pilot holes and holes for LED lights on my Tigerwood deck project. Dave in the tool department took the time to help me figure out what the best bit for the job would be. I found that if you let the bit do all the work with these bits and apply minimal pressure, it made perfect holes with no chipping or splitting. Tigerwood hits the Janka scale at 2160. These bits handle this wood with no problem as long as you are patient.

The threaded end makes this bit suck it's way through whatever you're drilling into. Some see it as a plus but if I can't control my drill there is a problem. Only one way to remove the bit if you're not going all the way through, and that's to reverse your gun otherwise the threaded tip holds just like a screw. I actually found these still in the package at a job site and now they're in the trash. I'm sticking with a regular spade bit with no fancy addons.
