Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jswobe Serious auger, requires power to use
Just the dimensions on this thing are impressive. It's heavy, long and sturdy. It does a great job of drilling through material, as long as you have a drill that can handle the size of the shank and the power to drive it through the necessary material.
I have used it in two different cordless drills. A 1/2" chuck is required, as that was barely large enough to fit the hex shank. My battery was near to dead in one of my drills, and the drill could not drive this auger. I grabbed a different drill with a fresh battery and it was able to do the job. It's a lot of metal to drilling through material and it takes some power to get it done. However, if you need the distance / length, this is a great tool for the job.
I kept the packaging for it in order to store it. There is a hole in the top that hangs on my pegboard nicely.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by jayp Sturdy Bit, Requires HD Drill
I used this bit recently to drill blindly through 2 layers of tongue & groove 1/2" pine wood and a layer of 1/2" drywall. I used an older 1/3 HP electric Skil drill which was the only drill I had available with a chuck large enough to accommodate the bit shank. I struggled to drill the hole, and the torque from the drill made it difficult to grip, as the bit was binding against the material. Admittedly, because I was in tight quarters I had to drill at a slight angle. Still, I was expecting this new bit to cut through the pine with ease. No such luck. I needed to resort to smaller paddle bits to drill some initial holes before I could finish the job with this bit.
This is a heavy duty product, obviously very well made. However, it would probably work best with a 1/2 HP electric drill equipped with a side handle, to manage the incredible torque that is generated. If your job doesn't allow you to get behind the drill to apply pressure, you may have difficulty getting the job done safely.
Since my holes were drilled blind, I am uncertain whether I encountered any hidden nails. If I did, this drill went right through them.
The bit is packaged in a hard plastic, re-usable container (see picture), with a cover that screws on securely, providing a handy storage device that can be hung from a hook or nail.
