Customer Reviews

Daredevil 7-1/2 in. Auger Bit Set (3-Piece) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Augers auger I use augers frequently as I salvage treated lumber from old decks and re-use the wood to make anything from wishing wells to storage sheds. As with any used wood, more than likely you will need to remove old nails or screws in order to use a saw on it and also for obvious safety reasons. I have 2 different hand held metal detectors I use to locate old hardware within the salvage wood. As hard as I try, inevitably a nail or screw gets through my process and magically finds it's way in front of a saw blade or auger I'm using. I've ruined many auger bits and saw blades over the years. Augers are the most unforgiving as when the auger meets a piece of hardware, the hardware wins. I have never had any luck trying to salvage the auger tips, so they get put into the bent nail container. I saw these marketed as nail resistant with 3x the life compared to other brands. I'd be happy with 2x the life. I wasn't able to review these by drilling into wood with nails, but I did try them on some salvaged treated lumber and liked them. This is a beefy auger bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from for rough work These bits are no joke. From the hexagonal shank to the double cutting edges to the reamer edge and reinforced tip and spine, this is what you use for rough work such as running electrical or plumbing through stud walls; standard 2x and 4x wood framing. The short bit makes it easy to navigate close quarters, but you need bits of all sizes for different applications. A 1/2" low speed drill is a necessity, I use a "yellow brand" spade handle drill but carefully, because even though these bits are designed to eat through nails you really have to expect that your drill will bind up with all that torque, so when it does it doesn't break your wrist. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aggressive hole makers These are serious tools for making rough holes, they dig into wood quickly and chew through softwood. The tips are hardened to resist damage from embedded metal; I can't vouch for the tip hardness. They are probably not recommended for use with cordless drills, they need the torque of a corded drill or the drill will stall. Plastic packaging was difficult to open and not suited to reuse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Robust augers drill holes effortlessly I have been replacing my old spade drill bits with augers- there really is no comparison. These augers cut almost as smoothly and accurately as my Forstner drill bits. They pull their way through thick wood with almost no effort, while the spade bits required constant force. This is especially useful when you are standing on a ladder. I make a point of removing nails before drilling, but I relieved to know that if I miss removing a nail these augers will make short work of it. I have always had good luck with Bosch tools, and I am confident that these augers will live up to their name.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Confident Drilling I had to install a 5/8"dia x 6" long all thread bolt in a barn's post & beam. I used the 5/8" dia. bit, from this set, to drill the hole. Part way through the post I hit a 20 penny x 3/16"dia nail. The drill stopped. I reversed the drive, backed the bit out a little, then started forward again. I continued drilling using a low speed, light steady pressure. The bit cut through the nail & continued out the other side. The bit suffered minor nicks on the cutting edges. On subsequent holes the bit cut through them as though it hadn't been damaged.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Set I got these because I drill a LOT of holes in all kinds of materials and a lot of them require a bigger bit. These are great for anyone who has to assemble picnic tables, outdoor wood furniture, or kid's jungle gyms, and need to use carriage head or larger lag bolts. They are super sharp and leave a nice clean hole. I used the largest one on 4x4s, made at least 8-10 holes, and it went right through every time. This set is an excellent addition to any workshop. Must have a heavy duty drill to accommodate these bits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Drill Set Based upon my past positive experience with another Bosch drill bit, I picked up this set of three drill bits (5/8," 3/4," and 1"). They are extremely well-made and will withstand many inadvertent run-ins with existing nails in the wood you are drilling. They have a reamer edge which makes a cleaner hole, and the dual cutting edges makes for easier drilling. You will note the heft of each drill bit as you pick it up. These are really solid bits! You will not be disappointed! I highly recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Meaty, Heavy Duty. These are not your average Augers. At approx. 8'' with a 2 1/4'' shank, These are some Heavy duty bits. They also have an octagon shank for better torque. Each bit, 5/8'' 3/4'' and 1'' have shank diameters that correspond to the size of the bit. I am using 1/2'' drive when operating them and they are powerful. These sport a reamer edge for cleaner holes and will even clear existing screws and nails. Spiraling tips help keep the tip on point. No slipping here. Another great component from Bosche
