Answer:
You need the width of your flooring boards and total square feet to use this calculator for linear feet. Multiply linear feet by 3 nails per foot. Add 5% for ends and so you don't run out.
The flooring store I bought from used this calculator.

Answer:
The number of nails required for 450 square feet of hardwood flooring will depend on the frequency of usage and distances apart. There is no way to calculate how many staples you will need.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Finishing up a 1400sqf floor using Bostitch floor stapler with no hiccups whatsoever. September 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by These staples will hold down a fort!!! I used these to install 3/4" oak hardwood and these staples are definitely strong. I had a couple of misfires on my staple gun and getting the staple out was no small feat. I have no complaint about this product. However, Home Depot doesn't explain very well on the website how many staples are in each box. Let's just say I made a trip to the store to return a box. 7000 staples is enough to complete a lot of hardwood flooring. April 17, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bostitch do not jam the discount staples I had been using repeatedly jammed in the stapler. These bostitch staples have greatly increased my productivity... August 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A lot of staples They work well with a bostitch stapler, like you'd expect. If you are wondering how much you'll need, I did 1700 sq feet of 3" wide hardwood with a bit over half the box. I have loaned my stapler to 3 others for 1 or 2 room jobs and I still have staples left. 7700 staples is enough for 3000 sq ft at least at 3" boards. June 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bostitch makes a quality product While it is early in my project, when combined with the Bostitch Mk III Flooring Stapler the Bostitch staples work like a charm on 3/4" oak strip flooring. Staples feed cleanly through the tool and have yet to identify a problem. I will be installing ~2300 sq ft over the next few weeks, so we'll see if the staples and the stapler continue to perform. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by VERY UNHAPPY box was previously opened and then strap tied closed to look like it was properly sealed. When I opened box it was apparent that roughly one third of box was missing. Unfortunately it was the last box and I was desperate for the nails. I was clearly overcharged for what I received. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks more expensive than it was...very classy and upscale So far takes the traffic well in the kitchen and powder room and hallway. Easy installation and looks very good. Met expectations. Delivery was prompt and product order perfect. Originally did not want hardwood in kitchen, but now I am so happy with my decision to put it in. February 11, 2012
