Briggs & Stratton 5 gal. Kerosene Can

Why can't I use this for gas? Is the blue color just to show that one is for Kerosene and the red is for gas?
Asked by: Anonymous
yes blue is for kerosene red for gas if you put gas in equipment that uses kerosene it will explode. also never put gas in this can as residual gas mixed with kerosene could do the same

Is it against the law to put gas in this can. I need one gas can for the lawn mower.I never have any other fuel in the garage..?

Asked by: Gascan
I'm not an attorney and unfamiliar with such statutes. Back in the 70's, my dad operated a gas station, and I remember a kid I was in school with showed up with a jar, hoping to get it filled, so, when he went ice fishing, he could get a small fire going. My dad said it was against the law, but, filled the jar, anyway. In hindsight, and knowing the kid a little better, the story didn't fit, and, why didn't he just get charcoal lighter fluid, but, that was then.

How to operate the pouring spout,

Have tried every which way but cannot get the spout to pour. The slider on either of two new cans doesn't seem to open up the flow. What am I dong wrong???

I never figured it out, either. I bought the can, took it to the station, expecting to have an easy time of it. With it being at night, raining, and the constantly shifting weight, and trying to find the right position, eventually, I heard a cracking sound, that I took as a sign that getting it to work as advertised was REALLY going to be a challenge, so, I removed the spout and poured it, old skool.

5 Gal. Kerosene Can is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Find something else. I purchased this can because there wasn't anything else to buy for kerosene/diesel. I filled it and attempted to fill my lawn tractor's tank. There is a mechanism in the spout that I find useless and unnecessary. After trying to figure it out I finally ended up removing the spout and poured the fuel into the tank. I'm taking the can back and looking for something else. PS, the cost of the can was about $5 more than I've seen similar products elsewhere.

This can would be better if it had two handles, but I find that holding the back edge while pouring also works. I love the spout you twist the green part (some are yellow) then push down to expel the kerosene, also it fits nicely into my space heater without a funnel. I have had many gas/kerosene cans in the past and they have all had design or quality flaws, so this one I like the best.

I already returned this kerosene can back to home depot because it only has one handle which makes it too hard to manage lifting and pouring. I already went to Tractor Supply and purchased another Kerosene can that has 2 handles, much easier pouring and lifting. But one plus was that I had no problem returning the item to home depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from K-1 5 Gallon can It's perfect. It does the job. No more paying $8.80 +tax, for lighting the grill. Yes folks, it's the same thing you are paying $2.60 or more for a 32oz bottle for charcoal lighter, that you can get at a gas station for $3.49 (plus tax) for a gallon of K-1. Why waste your money ?

A nice 5 gallon capacity receptacle, marked for Kerosene, with the modern "three hands required" nozzle system . Luckily I have a nice pump that came with my heater so I only need two hands to dispense the Kerosene . A great value .

The can/container itself is OK, and does it's job of holding kerosene fine ... the pouring spout is nothing short of a major frustration ... piece of "junk", not to put too fine a word on it (initially I had a better word than junk for this spout posted, that most people could, and would have, been able to better relate to, but you considered it "inappropriate language" and wouldn't let me use it .. too bad ... word was hardly "inappropriate", and described this useless piece of work much better) ... I'm giving this can/container a POOR overall rating simply because of this beautifully designed spout What I wanted to buy was a can/container with a traditional remote vent and strait through pour spout, but this wonderful new style is all you can find nowadays If all you want to do is fill a can/container with kerosene, and look at it, with no intentions of taking the kerosene out of it, this is the can for you ... because functionally as is, with this pouring spout, the can/container is just slightly better than not having a can at all

I bought this product because I'm close to selling my house and I didn't want to fill up the heating oil tank. With that, this can is sturdy to hold the weight of five gallons of diesel fuel. If my truck driving school taught me, correctly, a gallon is 8.5 lbs. so, full, weighs approx. 42.5 lbs. The spout being tricky, and the constantly shifting weight made for a trying endeavor. Read the instructions, first. I did not. Products like this are usually pretty simple, and I assumed this would be, as well. As I was experimenting with the spout positions and attempting to pour into the tank port, I heard something crack. So, I just removed the spout and poured it down, old skool. Since, I work nights, I filled the tank at night, after work, and, since the plastic is blue, and thick, it was hard to see the progress of filling the tank, and fuel was wasted either on me or on the pavement. If this wasn't such a temporary necessity, I would have gone to my Stihl dealership and purchased a replacement, there. Working with that can is a more efficient process.
