Its a great idea. I love that I can do both types of cooking. The downside is the gas area. This started to show light rust about 6 months after I bought it. About a year after I purchased it I need to replace everything in the interior. I am not sure if its worth replacing all of the interior elements because there is so much rust in the barrel. Parts have totally disintegrated.

I must admit that assembly wasn't the most convenient experience but it all came together easily enough relative to other projects of similar size and instruction detail.
The really wonderful part has been in the use of both the coal and gas for a solid party performance! I grill on the coal and then slide it over to the gas to stay warm and/or use the gas to prepare things wrapped up in foil so they don't occupy coal space. Having both options is wonderful and paired with the coal chimney I bought at the same time the prep time to have a good bed of coals is minimal.
Overall I am very, very pleased with the grill for the price and performance. Bring on summer!

This Grill Hits the mark on pricepoint vs. versatility. Assembly was a tad confusing and required a helper but once it was put together look out Meats and Veggies it's on. I used it the first night it was put together after the 20 min. "seasoning of the grill. Made Steak and Chicken with roasted veggies. Meats on teh charcoal smoking side and veggies were roasted on the Gas side (perfect because i could controll temp beter). Grillers don't be shy if your looking for the bang for buck ...this grill wont disappoint. Only thing i wish it had was metal pans below to catch stray drippings and ash and such ( it has one but could tray for botton of stand also).

My husband likes charcoal and I like gas. It is so easy for me to just turn it on and cook without having to heat the house. Love it.

I got this grill for fatherâs day and couldn't be happier after several months of use. The assembly took some time but the directions are clear. Just don't over tighten the bolts and be sure to follow the curing steps after assembly. I havenât had any issues with rust like many others have reported. I think the rust issue has more to do with grills in general. The metal will rust almost immediately if it gets wet. Thatâs most non stainless steel grill. The carbon created from using coal or propane reacts with water and creates an acid affect that dissolves metal. The secret is the cover. If you don't get the right one or go too cheap IT WILL GET WET AND RUST!! You need a vented, thick material, 65 inch cover that goes all the way to the ground. Brinkmann makes one that fits this grill perfectly (obviously) for about $30. If itâs too thin the chimney will puncture it and water will get in, if itâs not vented any condensation or moisture will get trapped under the cover and rust the grill. I went through 3 covers before I figured this out. If you accidentally leave it open to the rain, don't panic. Simply heat it up using the propane side to allow the water to evaporate. Then while itâs still very warm wipe it off with a damp rag and the rust stains will come right off. If the rust gets too thick, sand it down to the metal and recoat it with some high heat spray paint. If you donât deal with rust quickly the heat will help it spread and kill the grill but thatâs the same for most grills.
This grill does take some extra care to keep it in tip top shape but 5-10 minutes of cleaning after using it is worth the convenience of having a dual fuel grill. I just clean one side while I'm using the other side since I rarely use both at once. It keeps it from getting too dirty and I'm already out there grilling anyway. If you keep it clean and dry you will love this grill. If you don't then you will hate it and it will be a waste of money. If you're looking for something that requires less maintenance then stick with a stainless steel grill that won't rust or a barrel grill with thicker metal walls (this one has pretty thin walls for a barrel grill), that way it will take much longer (years) to rust through.
That being said, this grill is pretty good. Watch the propane side while cooking. The barrel shape doesnât leave much space between the racks and the burners so drippings donât have far to go to create a flare up. Low heat or even turning off one or two of the burners will give you better control of the temperature and flare ups. If you use it on high, like when you are cooking steaks, stay close to watch for flare-ups. The charcoal side is great for smoking and BBQing. It holds the temperature well as long as you utilize the vent and the chimney openings and it heats up the propane side enough (125-150 degrees) to keep food warm while you're still cooking on the charcoal side.
