Answer:
Ours gets up to 440 degrees, but the meat being cooked is never exposed to direct flame, so it does not sear as well as you might hope. This grill is an excellent smoker or oven, but it is NOT a grill in the normal sense of the word. It does create smoked and/or BBQed meals more conveniently than any other tool I have used.

Answer:
The pellet grill should reach 450 degrees or so and this is hot enough to cook steaks. A gas grill will reach higher temperatures than a pellet grill.

Answer:
Probably not from Brinkmann. Mine came with a digital read out. Unfortunately it quit working, prior to 06/01/2015. Still waiting for warranty replacement.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Smoker! I bought this smoker when Home Depot first started carrying them more than 3 years ago. I use it a lot, can't even guess at the number of bags of pellets I've run through it. It does a great job, always turns out perfect food. In my opinion this was the best $500 I've ever spent on a grill/smoker. Sad to read on here about the warranty issues others have had, mine has been a trooper and I got online here to look at purchasing a second one for the cabin. March 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great grill LOVE IT!!!!! Awesome grill been using it 3 days a week incredible food! January 15, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Great Grill, but.... This was a great grill. I used it many times until the auger drive motor went out after eight months. I sent in the warrenty information and Brinkmann told me they would send me a new auger drive motor, this was in November, 2013. I have been waiting for my part patiently. I contacted Brinkman today after five months of waiting and they told me they were still out of stock on the part and they would not be in until May 11. I believe this is an excessive time to wait. So if you want to buy this grill you are taking your chances. If it breaks down you may be out of luck. April 11, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Decent grill, horrible customer service As with another reviewer, this was a great smoker for the first eight months or so that I had it. Then the auger motor died. Two months now waiting on back order. Service rep for Brinkmann assured me on the phone four weeks ago that the part would ship in two and a half weeks. Still no part, and calls to customer service are met with simply an "I wasn't the one who told you that" attitude. I give it two stars over one only for the great food I was able to make while it was working. July 16, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst experience ever! Bought mine after having a Treager Jr. Thought it was great at first. Two weeks the glow plug went out. Home Depot was fantastic and returned it for the same model. One week ane two meals on it the auger stopped working and the fan stopped. Took it back, got my money back and will never buy a Brinkmsn product again. It's back to the Treager for me. May 20, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk Was damaged when I received it. Temperature gauge was broken, legs were dented, Holes didn't line up right. Returned to HD for a refund bought a Chargriller pellet grill that is 100 bucks cheaper and have not had a single problem with it. July 3, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wood pellet grill ground faults This Brinkmann pellet-fueled grill should be called a pellet smoker or oven. It does a superb job of baking and/or smoking, but is somewhat lacking as a grill because the item being cooked in never exposed to direct flame. However, as a smoker it is unexcelled with 7 separate smoke settings. As a baker, it is thermostatically controlled, and holds one of 10 preset temperatures very well. We also ran it up to 440 degrees just to see how high it would go. It is extremely well made of heavier than average steel, and appears sturdier than the corresponding but more expensive Traeger grill. Its one shortcoming is that it trips GFI circuit breakers. Brinkmann has published a "fix" for this which consists of setting the starting rod further back in its housing, but the unit still ground faults whenever ash builds up between the starter and the pellet cup. I would recommend this grill. It is a fantastic smoking tool capable of producing fine BBQed meals more conveniently than any other device I have used. June 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Makes you an instant BBQ Pitmaster I own 2 of them. If you are into smoking meat you will feel like you died and gone to heaven. They are very easy to use. The amount of smoke is perfect. Not too much and not too little. Perfect smoke ring every time on my meat. I never "over smoke" my meat anymore. Its such a pleasure to "press on" and just check it every hour or so. I used to have to babysit my meat with the wood and charcoal smokers that I no longer use. The low temp settings are great for low and slow. Been using them for a year now with no issues at all. NEVER had a flare up. Grates go in the dishwasher every so often. Super easy to clean. I can see why some of the pros are complaining about them on the pro BBQ circuit. It makes it sooo easy to be a grill master. Quality has not been an issue. Save yourself some big money and try one of these before you invest $1,000 plus more into another brand. December 24, 2013
