Answer:
RND is RANDOM MODE. When the RND switch is being used all preset programs in the timer will be turned ON and OFF randomly (within a +/- 15 minute range of present times) to make programs seem random.

Answer:
The 44-1051 has a rechargeable back up battery so the settings should remain effective for up to 7 days. While operating on battery power the LCD screen will eventually become blank but the internal clock should keep the time as long as it has a charge. If all of the power has drained from the timer, the settings will be erased and the unit goes back to the default settings.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as advertised and does what I need. I have built an aqjuaponics garden consisting of a 750 gallon "fish tank" and three 150 gallon "grow beds". In order to move the nutrient rich water from the fish tank to the grow beds, I use a submersible pump. The water for the grow tanks needs to "sit" for a while for the plants to absorb the nutrients. I needed to move the water 6 times a day. So the timer runs the pump for 20 minutes at 12, 8 and 4 am and pm and the water can sit in the grow beds for almost 4 hours before being replaced. This way the plants get the nutrients they need and the plants also "purify" the water that is then returned to the fish tank. All I have to do now is feed the fish. December 24, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great at first but doesn't last I purchased 3 of these timers last year. I really like using digital timers for my holiday lighting. And they are very easy to setup and worked great last year. But this year I tried to use for my Halloween lights. The first one I tried lasted for one day and then stopped working all together. The other two didn't work at all from the start. I'm very disappointed and I will not be purchasing this timer again. November 1, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great Features / Poor Quality I have used these for the pump in a hydroponics system. I've had three of them and not one of them keeps its settings after losing power. So, if there is a power outage, I have to go reprogram it again or watch my plants die. They tend to stop working altogether in less than a year. On the positive side, it's great that I can program up to 6 on/off periods a day, and go down to just 1 minute if needed. Many other timers have a minimum of 15 minutes. June 3, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by So-so quality Purchased 5 of these for our community Christmas lighting. Only two of them hold the charge when unplugged. I programmed them at home after charging for several hours and when unplugged the unit's battery obviously did not take a charge as I had to reprogram them once plugged into AC power again. Not sure how well they will hold up in use as I'm just now setting up the lights. November 27, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ordered two for our yard display. Upon opening them I found one way grinding away. I'll be returning it right away. Not sure about durability since one came broken to start with. December 19, 2013
