The tires are pneumatic. The wheel hub may be metal or composite. The composite hub seems pretty strong.

Answer:
The spreader fan is made of heavy molded nylon. Metal spreader fans lose their paint and then rust rather quickly.

Answer:
Absolutely, I do myself using a tractor. USEFUL TIP: If/when you purchase this item, or any ice melt application tool, apply a good coat of silicone spray. Silicone is HIGHLY resistant to salt, it helps protect against corrosion and clogs! I coated everything from the hopper down myself.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 36 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Big spreader Assembly was easy, the fan had one of the fins broken upon opening the box, I called the brinly-hardy number from the manual and they sent me a new one no questions asked. The tub on this holds a ton of seed, don't be fooled by the pics. It was way bigger than I thought once I opened it. It worked good and threw the seed out great, just make sure it isn't too windy or the seed will blow out the bottom even faster. April 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good product Delivery was prompt but was received received damaged call the manufacturer and explain the problem there are support was excellent and replace the damaged part it was somewhat difficult to assemble but it works very good April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just simply outstanding I have looked long and hard for a decent tow behind spreader and this is the best I have ever seen at this price level. This is a good company that has been in the light weight implement business for a long time and I see why after buying this. Very nice piece of equipment. June 23, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by broadcast spreader my brother assembled for me, some instructions were limited but overall not hard. spread well and evenly. lightweight easy to move into shed. May 26, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Adjustment lever needs to be rigged As others have found, the lever to operate this is not ideal. The guide will stop the lever from delivering more product, however, we found that it would close with the vibration. We rigged a bungee cord, which is cumbersome but it worked. May 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Decision!! Great product! Assembly was easy, parts came prepackaged on a piece of cardboard, shrink wrapped and labled. Easy adjustable spreader settings, durable construction and large capacity. April 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple. Sturdy. Gets the job done. I'm a professional, and I manage an apartment complex and put my equipment through its paces to do my job, and this spreader keeps up. I contract out for major plowing, but have found that pre-salting saves me a lot of time and headache when it snows. I had another brand, also older, that was here when I arrived and finally gave out; after which I went with the Brinley, and I'm happy I did! As a side note, Brinley also makes a brand called "Spyker" which has the same overall features with the exception of a stainless model. All to say, I am very happy. This is the second major Brinley purchase I have made for my grounds care equipment, I'm sure they'll be more! November 29, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good but not great quality Some parts are really sturdy, some not. Tips over easily when a full load is used. Transmission drive slips sometimes when a full load is used causing nylon gearing to wear and need replacing. Adjustment for rate does not hold even when tightened a lot. Adjustment lever has a tendency to close when in use. Hitch assembly is thin metal and distorts very easily. However, it is the best product on the market for the price and replacement parts are relatively inexpensive. I think you could build one by ordering the parts separately and come out about the same price as the whole unit kit, not typical for most things. October 9, 2013
