Answer:
There is a nylon collar. The steel axle protrudes from the drum. One is longer than the other so you need to assemble the long side first. If you slather a bit of grease on the axle and collar when you put it together it will last a bit longer.
You wont be pulling this very fast, so the components will last many years if you clean it up and keep it lubed.

Answer:
There is a square bearing that fits into the scraper bar and the axle of the roller on each end will go through this bearing.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 54 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This does everything I expected it to do. I don't have a riding mower so this is operated with man power. I have a 4' long black pipe that I use as a handle. Totally full of water 2 men that can pull this around the yard easily. My yard was so lumpy I thought I would sprain my ankle walking across it, it is much better now. Once a year, after really good rain, I have the yard rolled, and every year it just keeps getting better. When the job is done I drain the water, and it is light enough for me to carry it into the garage. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice roller Works as it was designed. Pretty simple technology. Kind of like the Flintstones May 17, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor workmanship The workmanship on this, being American made , is awful . It leaked water from around the area where you fill it so badly that we had to keep filling it just to finish the yard May 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by My first online purchase @Home Depot Easy to tow and light when drained for storage. Works as described and poly makes for a long life and no ruts or rusting. Delivery was fast and undamaged. Many more models to choose from online Vs. in the store April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent assemble instructions Have not used it yet. I have to comment on the instruction on assembly. The parts come in a blister pack and the instructions follow the layout of the blister pack. It would be very difficult to not put this device together correctly. I have 3 of their products and it has always been very easy to do. It cost them extra money to do this but it makes it easy to follow. Thanks Brinly_Hardy February 21, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rolls like a Brick. At first, I loved this Brinley roller. However, I stored it with the water in the roller. After only 3 weeks with it stored this way, the roller side that made direct contact with the floor flattened out. Now, if I pull the roller, it doesn't roll, it bounces like the warped roller it has become. Ridiculous to think that you would be required to empty the roller after each use. August 27, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Consider other roller options This particular roller was affordable and seemed to be well constructed, especially the metal hitch framing holding the roller barrel in place. Upon the third use, a leak developed along the seam where the two halves of the barrel were joined or "plastic welded". I did not have the roller filled to capacity (water) and was annoyed to find that the plastic barrel thickness was actually rather thin and possibly too flexible to actually flatten problem areas in my lawn. It is possible that I received a defective item, but will purchase a metal roller in the the future...just to be safe. This was an online purchase and was very easy to return to my local Home Depot. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good lawn roller I needed a lawn roller to level out my lawn. The winters underground critters had made quite a mess of my lawn. I looked at the steel rollers, but I live near the water, and everything thats steel rusts, also the empty weight of these units is very heavy, and many of the reviewers complained about leaks from bad welds. I saw this plastic roller, its empty weight is easy to work with, it wont rust, and I can fix the plastic if it does get a hole. I've used it twice now and am very happy with the 56" length and the job it did on my lawn! I waited for day after a rain when the ground was workable but not soggy. It even smoothed out tire tracks from the septic truck, when he had to back up on my lawn to pump the tank. All in all I'm happy, I just have to remember to drain it before the winter. April 19, 2015
