The roller holds 76 gallons of water, has an empty weight of 52 pounds and a combined [full] weight of 690 pounds. Water weighs ~8.4 pounds per gallon. If you want to use the roller at a reduced weight depending on where or when you are using it, you would simply add less water for that use. For example, if you want only 300 pounds instead of 690 pounds for a particular use: (target weight - empty Read More

Answer:
The shipping weight of the roller is 64 pounds. The available volume of the drum is 76 gallons. Since water weighs 8.34 lbs/gal, then the total weight of the unit is 8.34 lbs/gal X 76 gal = 633.84 lbs + 64 lbs which equals a total weight of roughly 698 lbs.

A gallon of fresh water weighs 8.34 pounds. This roller is sold as a 690lb capacity roller. 690 lbs divided by 8.34 = 82.73 gallons

The C clip and axle issue

This question is from 24 in. x 36 in. 690 lb. Tow-Behind Poly Lawn Roller

with all the comments about the weak C clips falling off, the pictures looks as thought the axle is made of steel.

is there a reason why a person couldn't drill a hole through the axle and insert a cotter pin much the same way as done with automotive axle nuts? or maybe match up the C clips and washers at the hardware store and buy spares so you have replacements should the C clips fail and come off? or are the C clips and washers an odd ball size that can't be replaced? is the axle hollow where it shouldn't be drilled which would cause fluid loss? it doesn't look like it would be hollow, but thought I'd ask before I buy one.

Answer:
I had no problems wit the C-clip so far and have rolled 5 acres numerous times. If I did, I would probably drill a hole and use a pin of some sort.

That's exactly what I did with mine. The axle is solid, and this fix lasted 3 more years until the pulling frame failed.

Answer:
The Clips and washers are standard size and can be found at your local hardware store. Also we have had customers tell us that they have drilled a hole in replacement of the clips and we do not see a reason why you could not do this as well if you wish to do so. The axle is a sold piece so it will not leak or drain if you do decide to drill a hole.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Waste of money Complete and utter waste of money. DO NOT leave the sun, it warped. If you need the weight get one made of steel. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Assembled easily and works great The Box is aprox. 24 x 36 x38 for those wondering, like I was, if it would fit in the back of my car. The assembly was simple. Filled it with water and pulled it with my Troy Bronco (18 horse). It is heavy enough that does a good job. I have been getting rid of moles and this levels the ground and makes it easier to find their fresh runs, trap them and then level things out when the moles are disposed of. The plastic roller has a couple of nicks from stones but it is still sound and holds water. When filled with water it takes some muscle to get it on my tractor hitch. I have had it about 8 weeks at this writng. I am happy with the purchase. May 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Retaining snaps, way too thin When I assembled the unit and saw how thin the roller retainers were I was skeptical. I was right to be. It was a short time before they came off. I was towing the arms with the roller laying behind me. How Brinley thought a shifting with the terrain 690 lbs with wafer thin retainers is a clear poor choice The shaft is long enough that I drilled it for spring pin retainers and now it stays on. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does The Job Easy online order and store pickup to avoid shipping charges. This roller is large so a pickup truck or big SUV would be great ( will not fit in your Prius!) Easy to assemble with a little thought and basic tools. The fill cap was a little tight to get in but just used a pipe wrench to wind in and works fine. The metal bracing and remaining hardware seems sturdy and not cheap. After filling rolled around my yard behind my Ariens tractor and had a great time smooshing all my mole humps and compressing a couple areas of new sand fill. Good product, good value. May 4, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good except No instructions in box but available online. Used the photos on the box to easily assemble it. However, the water fill plug would not start into the water fill hole. After 20 tries I got it to go 1/4 turn, being very careful not to cross thread it. Contacted Brinly-Hardy for a replacement plug and they told me this "crazy fit" was proper, to save the homeowner from ever needing a new plug. Eh? I'm an engineer and this is incorrect. I re-manufactured the plug with a thread re-chaser tool and now it's fine. Good roller. The instructions say "check the lawn tractor for proper application" My Lawn tractor instructions say "check the roller instructions" for proper application. April 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lawn roller Love it, easy to put together. Had it for a month and no problems. Worth the $$$ May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Poly Roller The roller is very well built and should last a long time. Home Depot was the only supplier that would let me order online and ship to their store for free. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ok except for the cap Only hitch was the plug that holds the water in went in rediculously hard and I thought I was stripping it so I called the company and they said thats how it was and sent me another cap. Stupid design on the cap. Nice overall though. May 31, 2016
