Customer Questions & Answers

Is this made to use behind a riding lawn mower?

I have looked at the picture and there is no discription of if it is meant for a tractor or riding lawn mower.
Asked by: Genie
A riding lawn mower is primarily a “Lawn Mower” and you really shouldn’t expect much more than that. Regardless of Horse power, Weight is a key factor. Your machine should weigh between 800 and 1000 pounds sans the rider. Even then wheel weights (on 12 inch rims) of no less than 100 pounds need to be added to the rear axle and for steering control at least as much to the front bumper. Most riding lawn mowers will not accommodate wheel or bumper weights. Transmission: Most of today’s riding lawn mower transmissions are hydrostatic and too light for ground engaging equipment. You will burn it up if it is to smallt. I have found the gear driven hi/lo six speed are all but bullet proof and a great transmission for this kind of work. Traction: Agriculture (Lug Type) tires are a must. In loose or compacted soil Turf tires will spin at even the slightest resistance. Tire chains can work but Lug Tires actually work better. Weight for the disc/harrow: This unit is designed to accommodate two to three cinder blocks. Average 8x8x16 cinder blocks weigh less than 35 pounds each. That is not enough weight if you are disking turn plow furrows. This piece of equipment can handle 250 pounds of extra weight without tearing it up. My point is: it is time to sell the riding lawn mower and up-grade to at least a sub-compact garden tractor if you are serious about dressing a deer plot or large garden. It will save you a lot of money in the long run.

is this used for plowing weeds?

Asked by: Anonymous
The disc harrow is used for breaking up the soil. It could be considered a drastic form of aeration, which does help with opening up the soil for grass to grow more healthy, and as a result helps choke out weeds. As far as plowing them up, if you pull the harrow over them, it may cut them up a bit, but it will not get rid of or prevent them.

can also work with a zero turn Toro SS4235 42 "

Asked by: Anonymous
Fredi, do you have a sleeve hitch? It is equipped to attach to that. Also, don't expect any zero turning. It is a disk harrow. With your piece of equipment, you'd have to lift the disk harrow before beginning a turn.

what direction are the disks supposed to face? The pictures seem to show both ways

Asked by: garden101
Hi Garden101, On this unit you can have the left side set of 4 facing in or out, same with the right side. So the direction would depend on what works best for you. If you have your manual, on page 6 figure 7 it will show you two disk harrows combined with the top having the disk facing out and the bottom facing in. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solid little disk Works just great for us. The small garden tractor can pull it and when set to the maximum angle the discs cut nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Item works as described We have a Brinly moldboard plow, and this unit works great to break up the clods. It does a nice jobbreaking up unbrokenground too, if its not as hard as a rock, needs some moisture in the soil to soften it a little. Overall the item is great and I amvery satisfied!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It will work with enough weight. My husband said that our lawn tractor wouldn't have pulled it, so he pulled it with the ATV (700cc). Even though the ground was moist, it is clay, he had to put 300 lbs on it for it to dig in sufficiently. It did what we needed to be done. We needed to work the yard and it had to go into a small area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy Handy Lil Disc. Works great with ATV. I attached the Disc to an electric actuator sleeve hitch which negated the need to add weight and I am very happy with performance of this Disc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for me I found this product to be an excelent value. Assembly was fairly easy and the construction seems to be very sound. The only issue I had is the length of the tounge. With a minor modification to the tractor to add an extension to the tounge we were up an running in no time. I would definently recommend this for gardens and food plots

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for Home use Works well in the sandy soil of the south. With two cement blocks added for weight, as recommended, it cuts into soil easily. A couple of trips across grass is all it takes to hit "pay dirt".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good unit. It does the job with extra weights. Wish it had extra slots to turn the discs inward. You could then use it to hill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not quite there My disc harrow just scratches the surface so I added 260lbs and still barely scratches the surface. I even waited after a rain storm second time I used it and it went maybe half and inch deeper. I think this harrow is to small it needs to be wider so more weight can be added. It also fell apart after I heard it 2 times. Discs started falling off the sides. Again a weight issue? I would not recommend this product.
