This is very well built, much better than any others I looked at. It is very heavy by itself without weight on it. The weight platform is plenty big compared to others. You can get as deep as you want to pull the plugs depending on the weight applied. The only thing that would be an improvement would be if it had air tires on it.

The assembly definitely took a while but wasn't that bad, I had my 3 year old help me and he thought it was fun. I had used weight lifting plates to sit in the tray and they worked perfect. I had a little under 200lbs on the tray and it pulled a good 3inch plug. The aerator itself seemed sturdy and well built and had no problem holding the weight I had in there.

Have only used once but seems very sturdy and did a great job with 3 cinder blocks added. I'm happy with my purchase. I did my research on it before I bought it. It's the best rated!

Took a while to assemble, and the inital parts bags did not match the instructions, but after a short pleasant phone call...the right parts were on their way.
Placed about 6 cinder blocks on it and got decent penetration....More an issue w/ my soil than the machine.
Grass is very happy after running this around!!

Except for the somewhat tedious assembly this aerator is a great tool. I used my air wrench for assembly which greatly reduced my estimated time. It still took about three hours (with short breaks) to assemble. I pull it with my 25 horsepower lawn tractor. For ballast I used three bags of base material for brick walks which in total weighed about 160 pounds.

Took a little bit of time to put it together, mainly because I was working by myself. All the parts were in the box, didn't have any problem with misaligned holes or difficult instructions. The only thing I'd rather have seen is pneumatic tires instead of the semi pneumatic wheels it comes with. I used mine the day I assembled it and was happy with its performance. We had rain about two days before and with minimal additional weight I was able to get 2.5" plugs with no problem. One thing to consider is if you have a lot of tight turns or obstacles that require you lifting the unit up on to its wheel you will need to get off your yard tractor to do this, if your tractor is like mine you have a dead man switch under the seat and it kills the engine ever time you get up to attended to the aeriator. If that's a problem for you, you'll want to get another unit. All said and done I'd buy this unit again.

Purchased online and had it shipped to home. A heavy boxed arrived in a few days and I went to work assembling. After laying everything out and familiarizing myself with the assembly instructions, I began putting it together. Instructions were straight forward and not too intimidating. Although there are many parts and seemed a tedious job it went pretty smoothly. It took me about an hour and made me love my cordless ratchet even more. Waited until the soil conditions were right and got after it. The aerator loaded with cinder blocks seemed to easily pull plugs and go about its business. A couple months have passed since I used it. Already see a benefit from use although first use was late in the grow season while things are going dormant. Should really see a difference after another use in the spring.
