Can this be mounted in a drop ceiling?

Asked by: Kurt
It needs to be secured to a junction box in the ceiling. Doubt a drop ceiling would work.

Can this be used outdoors? Is it plug-in, or requires installation?

Maybe more than one on a closed in porch. I put mine on a push button timer that is tied into the electrical on its own 20 amp breaker.

Customer Reviews

1,250-Watt Surface-Mount Fan-Forced Ceiling Heater is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 74.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product does not measure up to Broan's reputation. I had ,1 possibly, a model 154 ( it had wire heating element) that lasted over 20 years. Another identical one that lasted about 10 years. Then I purchased 1 that lasted 10 minutes and another one that was a replacement that lasted another 10 minutes. While reading troubleshooting guide I see that it is designed to run for 15-20 minutes and then the thermal couple shuts it off and cannot be rest. The first 2 would shut off but restart when it cooled off. Very poor design. Thermal couples a should be designed to have the capability to restart. Unfortunately, I have not found another surface mount available or I would purchase it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great product with outdated look Was looking for a heater only without a vent fan as i already have a separate fan. After a lot of searching this was about the only ceiling mounted heater i could find but ended up working out best as it is a direct replacement for an older model NuTone. This model is slighty smaller and more quiet. It went up in my very small bathroom and heats up the room quickly. Installation was simple as possible. Only gave it 4 stars not 5 because of the overall look. I would hope a product made today would look a little more modern but it basically looks the same as the older model thats probably been up since the 70s. If broan ever updated the look i would buy it again just dor that reason. Other than tnat i love it and it works really well. The damage around the heater in the pic is just from where the old model was and havent repaired at time of this review

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not reccommend this product! Over the last 30 years I have had 2 Broan heaters both lasting about 15 years each. I replaced the last one with a 157 that lasted about 15 minutes, the next one lasted about an hour, the third one just quit after being on only twice..

When the product is first turned on, it takes over a minute for the coils to start heating up. In the meantime, the fan is blowing out cold air. Also, the automatic overheating turnoff function does not work. It keeps going on and on instead of turning off at a certain temperature and then coming back on when it gets down to a certain temperature. Very disappointing. Does not perform to what I had expected.

Works way better than old one as new one has a superior heating element. This is used as supplement heat in bathroom. Have been using this one about 3 weeks. Have no complaints. Could not find in 4 stores in area, Home Depot employee suggested I go the internet route. It worked and was shipped promptly and arrived before scheduled date.

Now the heating element does not immediately come on and takes several minutes before heating up. After the heating element comes on the fan rattles so loudly that I turn it off fearing something is wrong. Now have to get the installer to come back out. Have had the heater for about a month.

I bought this to replace a similar ceiling heater which had lasted over 30 years. I thoughts would be a wire coil heater like the one I had, but this has a solid coil and takes a while to heat up. If you are in a hurry to get warm, find something else. If you have time to wait, then it is fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Price Around Bought this to replace our original that burned out in our basement. Its not as big and doesn't put out as much heat but it still does pretty good for taking the chill off. There is a lack of different sizes and heat output. For this model Home Depot has the best prices in America.
