Customer Questions & Answers

Can I connect a programmable thermostat to this heater?

I am looking to install this heater in my shed/office and I would like it to heat up before I get out there in the mornings. Would it be better to just keep it heated around the clock or can this heater connect to a programmable thermostat so that it will just be heated while I am in there?
Asked by: Justin
Any *line voltage* thermostat should work. A line voltage thermostat provides either 0 volts or 120/240 volts, the same as any switch. You should be able to set the built-in thermostat to high and use it that way.

Is everything included in the package to install this heater?

Asked by: apartmentmanager
Yes, everything is there except screws/nails to attach it to your framing, drywall, etc.

Does it hot enough to the touch to burn skin
Asked by: sparky
The heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bard skin touch hot surface. Keep combustible materials such as furniture, pillows, paper, clothes or curtains should be 3 feet from the front of the heater. Extreme caution is necessary when any heather is used by or near children or invalids, and whenever the heater is left operating unattended.

Can this direct wire into an outlet box in the wall? If so, does it come with romax or other connector or what do we need to do that?
Asked by: HardWireUnit
The heater is designed to be hard wired in the wall. It does not come with any wire. You will need to supply your own. There is a link to the installation instructions on the Home Depot.com product page.

We have a tiny hall bath, (7' x 8') and remodeled it last month...without making the room any larger. We wanted a tiny heater, one that would only use 500 watts, maximum, and one that would not use up any valuable floor space. This wall unit fits the bill. A simple change to the wires makes it 500 watts, rather than 1000. (See installation instructions.) It was a simple installation , fitting nicely between the studs. And we love it. One knob serves as the on-off switch as well as the thermostat. Now we can make the small bathroom nice and toasty for as long as needed. It just feels luxurious to have heat so handy ....at the touch of a knob!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT!!! I purchased this wall heater last year while remodeling my bathroom. The only issue was when after mounting the frame, one of the wires was cut by accident when inserting the motor. Probably was mostly our fault. Ordered a second and was more careful sliding it in place. Frankly the best part of the bathroom. Now I go in, turn it on and when ready for bath or shower, the room is toasty warm. It has an internal thermostat that does not let the unit get too hot. Wish that was a little higher but still happy with a nice warm bathroom especially during the cold NYS winters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little heater! I'm a contractor and I just added an 8' X 8' laundry room off our kitchen in an area that had no existing heat. Instead of running a leg off the far end of our forced air system, I opted to try this small wall heater. Installation was very easy. I pulled a 20A dedicated lead from the new subpanel, screwed the heater to the framing and made the simple connections. It's very quiet and the room is warmed very quickly. With the thermostat set at 68F, the heater runs probably not even a total of 10 minutes in an hour's time. Rather than continually running forced air heat to a room that is not used that often, this was the perfect solution for this application. I also installed the same heater in our new 9' X 9' entry way and it does the job there as well. There is nothing I don't like about these heaters. Would buy again and recommend to my customers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice heater, but some installation hassle This is a dandy little heater but it's set up primarily to be installed in a new wall. It mounts to a stud on one side and has an adjustable bracket to the next stud. If you are installing in an existing wall, getting at the studs can be a challenge and require opening up more wall than should be necessary. You can't just cut the right size opening and slip it in, with fasteners around the edges. It is also designed for minimum 2x4 studs plus drywall, so if you have older mobile home construction or other thin partitions (2x3, 2x2) or thin paneling instead of drywall, you may find this heater to be too thick. With those caveats, I can recommend it heartily. I installed it in our shower room, which is just off the master bath but it has two exterior walls and doesn't get much heat from the central system. This little heater does a nice job taking the chill off. We run it on a spring loaded interval timer, so we can dial up the desired heating time (usually 15-20 minutes) and know it will shut off on its own.
