We bought this house in 1993. In the summer we never went to the liveable attic, because it was too hot.
The house is a 2 1/2 story house built in 1902 and never had a gable or roof vents. We have been working on the exterior of the house this year and installed this Broan gable vent. We now use the attic in the summer months and enjoy the extra space. I mounted the fan to 3/4 inch plywood with a 15 inch diameter hole cut in it, I screwed it over the gable vent and ran a kill switch to the room below it, which was our bedroom. We hardly hear it at night, we have traffic going by, train whistles, and our room a.c.unit. If we wanted a motor we couldn't hear, we would have purchased one with a smaller motor and less powerful
We love it and have already told our friends about it! .

Very poorly packaged...fan shell distorted and fan blades were hitting outer fan shell. Had to
bend shell back into shape. I should have taken it back to the store, but I fixed myself to
avoid further delay.

I think this fan is good, however the instructions were not clear to me about how to operate. The fan kept staying on once we installed it, however I think if you turn the knob all the way it will stay on automatically. I think if you turn the knob a little bit past that, it will start to use the thermostat mode. It is not above 70 degrees now, so I will have to wait until the weather warms up to see if it will start working automatically.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by surferdude great product; wonderful results
The installation of this product was straight forward. Mounting it on a 3/4 inch piece of plywood nailed on the gable wall created a great seal. Although you can hear the fan from outside the house, it is not too bad in the room directly under it. A kill switch was wired into the circuit and placed inside the closet of the room directly below the fan. However, my wife doesn't find the fan noise disturbing and she noticed a marked difference in the temperature of the house after the fan was installed. This product performs as advertised.

The fan came with only 3 of the 4 mounting brackets, but the electrician installed it anyway. The thermostat was not working, so he used the old one on the fan that was being replaced. The fan is now working but at a fairly high noise level. Have received the missing bracket and thermostat from Home Depot, but have not installed them yet since it is extremely difficult to access the fan in the attic due to the tight space and insulation.

Bought this product online March 2015. Paid to have professionally installed by licensed electrician.
It is Oct 8, 2015 and the unit does not work. Hope their is a warranty for six months ownership and then I have to have a new one reinstalled. NOT GOOD!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kevin Great product.. Easy install
Replaced my old fan that crapped out after about 15yrs. This one was really easy to install out of the box... More powerful, and really quiet for the volume of air that it moves. Just make sure to bolt it down solid to minimize any vibration, and you'll likely need a cable clamp for the junction box. Over all... Great product for the price!!
