Customer Questions & Answers

Can this ceiling heater be used in a shower enclosure?

Broan 250 watt 1 bulb infrared ceiling heater Model #161
Asked by: Anonymous
No! Installation of this infrared heater over a tub or shower is not safe. Some exhaust fans can be installed over a tub or shower if connected to a GFI, Ground Fault Interrupter Circuit. A heater/ fan combo unit with which the outflow of warm air can be directed toward the tub/shower would be the best solution for heating that area of the bathroom.

Does this unit need to be vented through the roof? Is it IC rated?

Asked by: Mulerider1
This is a one-bulb infrared heater. It doe not have exhaust so you do not need to vent it. If you want a bulb heater with an exhaust fan, review model 162. That model would require duct work to ventilate. If you have further questions, dial 888-336-3948 and our Customer Service Department can assist you. Thanks.

Can Broan infrared heater be used on a high vaulted bathroom ceiling and heat the whole room?

Asked by: Don
The infrared bulb heaters do not raise the ambient temperature of the room. You will feel heat when standing below the bulb, but will not feel the heat when away from the unit. If you want a heater that will raise the ambient temperature of the bathroom, you will need a unit that has a heating element style heater. If you need further assistance identifying a product that will work in your bathroom, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-558-1711.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what was needed! Doing a major bathroom remodel, down to the studs, I was determined to add a heat source for chilly mornings. I had opportunity to use the same heat lamp while on a trip and figured it would fill my needs. I have not needed it since installation, central Florida in July, but am sure this winter there will be mornings I will make use of it.
