I don't know whether to choose the Braon 41000 (non-vented) for $105.71 or the 41000 for two dollars cheaper.

Externally Vented is connected to ducts that run to the outside of your home as opposed to the non-vented only circulates into the fan above.

Answer:
A vented range hood has duct that leads to an outside wall taking the odors outside. With non- vented the fan sucks in the air thru a charcoal filter and out the front vents.

If you can vent it outside it works better takes the odor to the outside. Don't get the vented hood if you can't hook it up to and outside vent.

Answer:
non-vented means it recirculates the air inside your kitchen, vented pulls the air through a duct that goes outside via the roof. In my case I upgraded to stainless so all we had to do was take out the old and hook up the new stainless one to the existing duct.

Answer:
That is your preference. I prefer the externally vented because if there is smoke or something in the kitchen it will suck it outside. The non-vented just recirculates the air in the kitchen.

Answer:
Non-ducted means that the air is drawn up into the hood from the bottom. It then goes through the charcoal filter inside the range hood to remove any odors and is expelled through the vents in the front.
With an externally vented range hood, the air is drawn up into the hood and is expelled through the ductwork to an external location, other than the kitchen.

For conventional electric and gas ranges or cook tops, we offer a complete line of hoods that can fit your cooking needs with features you desire. For high output gas ranges or cook tops, the minimum rate of 1 CFM of ventilation per 100 BTU is recommended.

Thank you for your interest in our product.
The knock outs for the duct connection on the 40000 series range hood are located in two places.
There is one on the top of the hood for vertical discharge.
There is also one on the back of the hood for horizontal discharge.
You can choose either, but not both; whichever works best for you.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by No installation hardware, instructions. Opened the box to find the hood, no instructions, and worse yet, no installation hardware of any kind. The aluminum filter was bent as well. I slapped the return sticker on the box and back to UPS it went. Disappointing. July 3, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exhausted and Glad My Exhaust fan / range hood was an excellent by. It works perfectly and looks great. I would recommend it to everyone. Shipping was fast, and received it in great shape. No complaints with this Broan Range Hood. Purchased it online, and it was a breeze. Great product. October 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Price/Value. Good Quality. Loud fan. The unit arrived faster than expected. Install was a breeze because it matched my old range hood perfectly. Directions were clear and easy to follow even though I really didn't need them. The finish is beautiful stainless steel but not smudge-free. The light is nice and bright. The fan is quite loud on high, but for the price I am willing to live with it.. T Great Value. August 11, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by top rated for the money Great product ordered from our Home Depot store by the associate in the appliance department. May 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Much better than the otr microwave combo I had I have had microwave/exhaust hood combos for years, but when the last unit had its second magnetron go bad, I decided to switch back to just an exhaust hood. I like this much better as the exhaust is better and it is not as loud and the lighting is better. It also sets higher above the cooking area so I can see what I am doing better. This hood is fine and meets my needs quite well. I did buy the power cord rather than direct wiring. We had a difficult time getting a knockout plug removed as it apparently was not scored enough at the factory. We also had to add a filler board under our cabinets, but otherwise it installed fine. So overall I consider this to be better than what I was using before and would recommend this one to anyone looking for one. December 21, 2015
