This Broan Elite under-cabinet range hood is perfect for our needs. The vertical height is less than most which is what we needed to make sure the cook top to hood distance was adequate. Very simple to use, you don't need written directions to figure out the 3 fan speed and 3 light levels.
It took a talented amateur to install the hood. The alternative was to hire a contractor to remove a cabinet and create a new opening on an outside wall for venting a new type of hood. We have not had the unit long enough to evaluate durability but works perfectly so far.
Ease of cleaning, simple good looks and low sound level made this an easy choice, but it must be ordered online. In-store selection is small and none are hooked up so you can see and hear them in action.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RMDIY Very good range hood
This is a very good range hood with excellent ability to quietly vent the heat and smell from your cook top. The vent hood has four fan speeds and a timer button to keep the vent hood running for a few minutes before shutting off. The light has three levels and uses a standard MR16 GU10 lights. The range hood came with two halogen bulbs but I replaced them during installation with dimmable 3000K LEDs which are much cooler and work great. The fan motor is very quiet so the only noise that you really hear is the sound of air movement. The sound is pretty loud on the highest setting, but again, you are hearing the movement of air, not the fan motor. The hood remembers which setting you last set the lights and fan speed so if you find a setting that you like, on/off is just one button press each. The fan and light buttons are easy to press and intuitive to use. The hood has a very nice stainless finish that looks great on the top, sides and from underneath.
I rated the hood 5 stars for two primary reasons (the reasons you buy a vent hood) - 1) it does an outstanding job quietly removing heat and smells and 2) it provides great light for cooking.
There are several considerations to be aware of with the E661:
- The hood requires almost complete disassembly and reassembly to install and the removal of a back panel for venting.
- Access to the holes to attach the hood to the cabinet are difficult to reach with power tools.
- Having installed my own hood, it is not too bad for a DIYer but this is not for the timid if you are planning on self-installation.
- The vent screens are a bit flimsy compared to other manufacturers at lower prices.
- There aren't a lot of options when shopping for vent ducting to attach to the 14" x 3.5" output. I ended up purchasing sheet metal and fabricating my own connector.
This was my 2nd vent hood on this project. I first purchased a $300 AKDY hood but returned it because of fan/hood vibration and dim, single setting LED lights. The cost for the E661 was a bit difficult to swallow but Home Depot offered a palatable price in comparison to other retailers.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FntsticCook Fine piece of workmanship
We needed a new range hood to go with the GE Cafe range we purchased. We went cheap at first, installed said cheap hood and regretted it. Then bought two other range hoods, including this one, to make sure we covered ourselves. Once the Broan arrived, we new it was the best choice (returned the other two). The construction is superior (things like tucked and smooth corners, beautiful lines and quiet motor) and it looks quite elegant. 3 - count 'em - 3 brightness settings for the lights, the fan has four speeds. We use the range hood lights for a night light, and the lowest setting is perfect. The fan is strong, and relatively quiet up to the highest setting. It's a luxury product at a mid price point.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hikergirl A lot of power for a 30 inch range hood
We recently remodeled and switched out an old electric range with a very high power gas range. We needed a vent hood which could handle the BTUs. With only 30 inches to work with, this vent hood does a great job. The lighting is excellent, and the fan noise at full power is acceptable. The filter screens are easy to remove and clean. The first time we turned it on it sounded like a helicopter taking off, which is NOT what I wanted in my new kitchen! We took it down and found a piece of packing had gotten into one of the fans. Once removed it whispered. So my advice, if you've bought this hood and it's making horrible noises right out of the box, check the fan housing for a piece of the styrofoam packing. My only complaint is that it's a bit expensive, but it's your best choice for high power in a 30 inch width.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Simeon Hood has lots of problems
Product came with no power plug, you have to make one yourself.
The installation took me and another man over 3 hours.
After installation, we found the moving fan rubs on the bottom metal panel, even on the lowest speed. The tightening screws on the panel have to be loosen halfway to make the rubbing go away, by then the unit is no longer safe to use.
Returned to Home Depot with no difficulty. Thanks Home Depot.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jesse A fine hood at a fine price.
I researched many makes and models of exhaust hoods and selected this one based on its cfm rating and a reasonable price.
The Home Depot installers were experienced and helpful.
